WB SR 210 TEMPORARY CROSSOVER LANE

In August, a temporary crossover lane went into effect on WB SR 210 between San Bernardino Avenue and Base Line. This temporary traffic pattern shifted one lane of traffic on WB SR 210 to the other side of the center median for 2.5 miles, allowing crews to begin pavement rehabilitation activities on the existing WB roadway. This configuration will be in place for approximately six months. With the project almost 70% complete and the EB lane rehabilitation finished, crews will start rehabilitation of the WB lanes, marking a major step toward project completion.

As shown in the diagram below:

  • Drivers entering WB SR 210 from EB/WB I-10 connectors will be able to access both lanes and have access to local exits via the outside lane (also known as the #2 lane).

  • Drivers in the crossover lane (also known as the #1 lane) will not be able to exit at 5th Street/Greenspot Road or Base Line. They may exit at the NB SR 330 connector or continue traveling west on SR 210.

  • Drivers in the #2 lane will still be able to access both 5th Street/Greenspot Road and Base Line exits.

  • Drivers entering WB SR 210 from San Bernardino Avenue and 5th Street/Greenspot Road will only have access to the #2 lane until the crossover lane merges with traffic at Base Line.

LANE CONFIGURATION ON EB SR 210

In August, the EB SR 210 crossover lane was removed, and the traffic was shifted to the newly paved lanes on EB SR 210.

As part of this new transition, crews installed concrete barriers along EB SR 210 from San Bernardino Avenue to the EB/WB I-10 connectors to safely separate travel lanes from adjacent work areas. In this configuration, motorists entering EB SR 210 using the on-ramp at San Bernardino Avenue will not be able to access the EB I-10 connector and will be automatically directed onto WB I-10. This configuration will be in place for approximately four to five months.

EB SR 210 to EB I-10 Suggested Detour:

  • From San Bernardino Avenue travel south on Tennessee Avenue and turn left onto the EB I-10 on-ramp to access freeway.
SOUND WALLS AND RETAINING WALLS

Construction of new sound walls and/or retaining walls is underway throughout the project corridor. This work is ongoing Mondays through Saturdays during daytime hours (6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.) and intermittently during nighttime hours (9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.).

NEIGHBORING PROJECTS

The I-10/Alabama Street Interchange Project will reduce congestion, improve safety, and improve traffic operations along Alabama Street between Orange Tree Lane to Industrial Park Avenue in the City of Redlands. The project will widen the eastbound and westbound I-10 off-ramps at the I-10/Alabama Street Interchange. During construction activities may include digging up roads for utility work, pavement and restriping work, placement of new traffic signals, traffic shifts, intermittent lane closures, and ramp closures. Workers and heavy equipment will be present throughout the project corridor and we ask that you allow for extra time to reach your destination as you may experience delays.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

The SR 210 Lane Addition and Base Line Interchange Project is designed to provide increased traffic flow throughout this corridor. To eliminate the existing bottleneck and provide lane continuity, the SR 210 will be widened from Sterling Avenue to San Bernardino Avenue in the cities of San Bernardino, Highland, and Redlands, as well as an unincorporated portion of San Bernardino County. Base Line Interchange will also be widened from Buckeye Street to Seine Avenue in the City of Highland, which will include widening three of the four interchange ramps. As the SR 210 Lane Addition and Base Line Interchange projects aligned geographically and shared similar delivery schedules, they were combined for the design, right-of-way, and construction phases to save cost and expedite the schedule. In addition, pavement rehabilitation work was added through a cooperative agreement with Caltrans that includes new concrete pavement between 5th Street and Lugonia Avenue. Adding the pavement rehabilitation work during the Lane Addition and Base Line Interchange projects means one less project that the community will have to navigate around in the future.

Please remember construction is dynamic and the schedule is subject to change.
