President's Message

The name of the game this month is ADVOCACY! I recently represented our Association at the Rally for Education Funding.

Our Executive Director, Bob Vecchio, has been extremely busy giving interviews to the media and meeting with legislators in Albany and here on the Island to carry our message.

Our efforts have centered around the devastating funding cuts proposed in the Governor’s budget and showing our support for the Senate and Assembly’s one-house budgets reinstating what we need.

While we advocate for ALL of you, it is vital that you also engage in advocacy efforts by meeting locally with your State Senate and Assembly representatives and ensure that they fully understand how the proposed cuts would affect your district…Know your story, tell your story! Engage your community! Sign up for NYSSBA’s advocacy alerts & participate in the calls to action.

These efforts help our legislators fight for us…AND fight we must, the future of our children is at risk and that is unacceptable!

N-SSBA Moves From

Bellmore to Medford

After nearly 3 decades of calling 219 Bedford Avenue in Bellmore home, N-SSBA moved it's office to 3237 Route 112 in Medford on February 9, 2024. "The new office is more efficient and reduces our rent expense by nearly 55%" said N-SSBA Executive Director Bob Vecchio.

N-SSBA's phone number and fax number remains the same and the office is conveniently located off of major roadways.

Baldwin School District

Partners With

PM Pediatric To Launch The

Baldwin Schools Wellness Center

On 3/21/24, Board trustees, the Superintendent of Schools, other school officials, officials from PM Pediatric and several elected officials attended a ribbon cutting ceremony for the Baldwin Middle School's Wellness Center.

The Wellness Center was made possible by a federal grant secured by former Congresswoman Kathleen Rice.

Since beginning operations in December 2023, the Wellness Center has served over 200 families and rendered over 600 sessions. They provide mental health services as well as an area for academic wellness.

The Wellness Center is open during school hours and stays open until 8pm during the week and offers Saturday hours as well.

Congratulations to the entire Baldwin team for taking an innovative approach to dealing with the mental wellness services offered to their community.

Hampton Bays School District Partners With

Teachers Federal Credit Union

To Open A Financial Center At The High School

On 2/29/24, the Hampton Bays School District cut the ribbon and opened the Hampton Bays Financial Center in partnership with Teachers Federal Credit Union.

This is a fully functional satellite branch that enables students to open accounts, make deposits, learn how banks work, gain first hand experience in financial literacy skills, and save for items like class rings and yearbooks.

Each senior who opened an account received a $10 grant from a local foundation to encourage students to open accounts and start saving.

Congratulations to the entire team at Hampton Bays for bringing financial literacy to their district in a unique practical way.
