In an attempt to follow Jesus’ command in Matthew 28 (‘Go and make disciples of all nations’), the IYM Missions Committee is on board with the EFM Luke 10 Initiative. This initiative is to send ten new missionary families into five new missionary fields in five years. As a response to this, IYM is sending a team to India in the spring of 2023 to explore and listen to the Holy Spirit

in order to discern God’s will, and if IYM should take further steps towards this area as a mission field. Over the next months, we will be posting reminders, asking all of IYM to join together to pray. We want to pray for the individuals going (for safety, for finances, for a smooth process when it comes to obtaining visas, etc.). We will also ask for prayer for those on the ground there that the team will encounter ‘persons of peace’ as they explore and see how God may be leading.

The Urbana Conference is coming quickly! If you have not registered, or if there are young people you would like to talk to about registering, the attached flyer contains all the information you need. Contact Katy Moran (her email is in the flyer) if you have any questions.

The Growing Young Workshop that had to be postponed has been rescheduled for February 18 at Maple Run Friends.

The Colson Center National Fellowship will be held in Indianapolis this year! The IYM E&O Committee is recommending it for any and all IYM folks! Click HERE for information on the conference and how to get signed up.

A letter from Barclay College:

Thank you to the 107 households who have already contributed to our Christmas Wreath Appeal with a total of $54,373 given as of December 14. We trust that many more households will decide to participate as our financial need is significant.

Due to the recession we were unable to make our annual withdrawal from our primary endowment fund. Additionally, our fall enrollment fell below the level we expected this past August and that has caused a shortfall. Barclay College has also made the required hirings the Kansas Board of Nursing stipulates to approve our new program. We have full nursing faculty and staff and ZERO tuition income. Finally, some estate monies we had hoped to receive this fall have been delayed until 2023.

The total number of households who receive an invitation to give to the Christmas Wreath appeal is around 2600 units. If we could get a response from just 10% of those households it would have a significant impact on our operational budget. If you benefitted from the Full Tuition Scholarship and/or believe your life was enhanced because of your experience at Barclay College/FBC would you please

consider making a donation at this time?

Merry Christmas!

A Message from our Superintendent

Good Morning,

And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them,

and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people.Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in

cloths and lying in a manger.”

Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,

“Glory to God in the highest heaven,

and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”

So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. Luke 2:8-15

This will date me a bit, but often times when I read this passage, the voice of Charlie Brown’s friend Linus is the voice I hear in my mind.

I’m sure many of you have seen it. In ‘A Charlie Brown Christmas’, Charlie is exasperated by all the things going wrong as he and his gang are preparing for a Christmas pageant. Charlie Brown finally yells out, “Can anyone tell me what Christmas is really all about?”

Linus calls for the lights, and there on a near-empty stage, he delivers the King James version of

this passage. Plain and simple…Christmas is about Jesus!

We can fill it with so many other things. Some of them are really good things, like family, lights, decorations, fellowship, and gifts. And, if we do not have Christ at the center of all these things, are we really celebrating Christmas?

Leave it to the wisdom of Charlie Brown and his friend Linus (and of course the always-present security blanket), to remind us, yet again, that we can always go to Jesus and the Gospels when searching for the true meaning of Christmas.

Merry Christmas!
