What Happens on Teacher Workshop Days?

The school calendar includes six professional development days each year. These days are a critical component of ensuring that teachers and staff members have time to engage in training and collaboration. Today our staff members received training in CPR/AED/First Aid, worked together to advance their understanding of supporting students with complex social emotional needs, and engaged in reflection on the teaching and learning that occured in the first trimester as they completed report cards.

Additional teacher workshop days are scheduled for March and May. On those days, we will continue to work toward our NEASC goals of refining and revising our curriculum documents, improving our tiered supports for students, and finalizing a vision of the graduate and creating a plan for ensuring that vision is the foundation for the culture and climate of our school.

Thank you to the very generous parents who provided breakfast for our staff this morning. It was delicious and greatly appreciated!

Have a wonderful weekend!

CALLING ALL STUDENTS 5TH THROUGH 8TH GRADE:

It’s time to help our community! From December 5th through December 15th we will be competing by homeroom in the collection of non-perishable foods to donate to the Northwood Food Pantry. Basically, any food that is “shelf-stable” or nonperishable that you can keep it in your pantry and it won’t go bad. And remember, only donate food that hasn’t reached its “sell-by” date yet. Specifically items like:

  • Peanut butter
  • Canned soup
  • Canned fruit
  • Canned vegetables
  • Canned stew
  • Canned fish
  • Canned beans
  • Pasta (most prefer whole grain)
  • Rice (most prefer brown rice)

Let’s go Lakers! Together we can make a difference.

News from Sixth Grade

Students in sixth grade STEAM-Win groups were tasked with creating a functional Newton’s Cradle in conjunction with studying Newton’s Laws of Motion.  They researched how potential energy, kinetic energy, the law of conservation of momentum, and the law of conservation of energy operate in the design of a Newton’s Cradle.  Students collaboratively decided upon the materials that would be allowed for this project.  They also decided how each model would be tested and then collected data.   Based on the data collected, they awarded titles for best design and two subsequent categories.

From the Sunshine Committee

The Sunshine Committee would like to give Hannaford of Northwood a big SHOUT OUT for donating goodies for staff members at Northwood School during their workshop day.
