Supporting Your Ministry

Rev. Joshua Patty

Regional Minister and President

As the holidays approach, we have many things to share with you. In the sections below, you'll find information on the 2023 Ministers Institute, focused on clergy wellness, and the Christmas Special Offering, which directly supports our region's ministry.

To repeat information you've hopefully read in other places:

Regional Youth Ministry Reading Group

Beginning in December, a group of youth workers from around the region will be gathering virtually to learn together. We will be reading 1-2 chapters each month from Andrew Root's "The End of Youth Ministry?" Email Tiff Williams to be included in the group and receive the Zoom link. Who is a youth worker? Anyone, layperson or pastor, who works regularly with young people. (Sunday school, youth group, Christian Education chair, etc.)

While Josh is on vacation...

I will be on vacation Nov 22-30 and Dec 25-Jan 5. During these times, please contact our regional office by email or phone (515-255-3168) if you have urgent needs. If it isn't urgent, please email me and I'll respond when I am back to work.

Christmas Special Offering

The Christmas Special Offering on behalf of our Upper Midwest region will be received Sundays, December 11 and 18. Financial gifts help us as Disciples Together to resource congregations and ministers, host church camps and region-wide gatherings, and so much more. The 2022 Christmas Special Offering video may be downloaded here or accessed through YouTube. Graphics and other resources are available here.

After Christmas Sermon

Need some pulpit supply around the holidays? Regional Minister Joshua Patty will offer a recorded sermon, "Echoes of Christmas" based on Luke 2:25-35. The sermon will be appropriate for January 1 or any Sunday after Christmas.

The sermon recording will be available by December 21. Upper Midwest ministers and congregations will then receive an email with instructions for downloading the sermon or accessing it through YouTube.

General Assembly Registration is Open

Visit the General Assembly website to learn more and register.

2023 Peace Interns

Applications are now being accepted to serve as a Peace Intern with Disciples Peace Fellowship. For over 45 years, this program has invited young adults to spend a summer modeling peacemaking at church camps and other gatherings. Learn more about this paid internship program here.

Congregations in Transition

Friends, you will see listed below the congregations in the Upper Midwest in the search and call process. Gratefully many of these congregations have interim leadership, equipping the congregation to transition with hope and grace.

  • Mitchellville Christian Church is in the search and call process. Alice Bolen is serving as interim.
  • Altoona Christian Church called Lisa Grace as interim.
  • Oakland Christian Church is in the revitalization process, using regular pulpit supply for Sundays.
  • Waukee Christian Church is in the search process.
  • New Disciples Christian Church, Cedar Rapids has called Sherry Schwab as interim.
  • Park Ave Christian Church, Des Moines is in the search and call process with Tim Johnson serving as interim.
  • Lennox Christian Church is in the search and call process.
  • Trinity Christian Church, Bridgewater, will enter the search and call process.
  • First Christian Church, Hampton has regular pulpit supply.
  • New Beginnings Christian Church, Urbandale, is in the search and call process.
  • Central Christian Church, Boone, is in the search and call process, with David Clark as the interim.
  • Hedrick Christian Church is seeking pulpit supply.
  • Carlisle Christian Church is beginning the search process. Lynda Carlson is providing pulpit supply until Christmas.
  • Nichols Christian Church is seeking pulpit supply.
  • Bondurant Christian Church will enter the search process after resignation of Jason Grow.
  • Broadway Christian Church will enter the search process after the resignation of Carol Hall.
  • Marion Christian Church will enter the search process after the resignation of Bryce Bowers.
Looking to Serve?

Each month, we list the congregations in the Upper Midwest who are in the search and call process. It is challenging to identify enough pulpit supply, interim, and settled ministers for these many congregations to consider.

Please contact Josh, Tiff or Liz to learn more or share your ideas.
