Listening and Learning about Israel-Palestine

Opportunities on March 8 at Town Hall and March 20 at UUC

Many of us are saddened or even outraged by the ongoing war in Gaza, and wondering if the future might bring peace and justice to this long-embattled region. Two upcoming events might help educate, enrich, and empower us.

One, sponsored by Tomorrow's Women, is at Town Hall Seattle on March 8th. It features an Israeli musician and a Palestinian journalist who are collaborating to spread a message of hope. [Continue reading]

Common Power: A Testimonial

Putting My Words Into Action

By Lora Poepping, UUC Member

Like so many of you, I was completely distraught after the 2016 election. I remember driving home from a party in downtown Seattle, that was supposed to be a celebration, in utter shock. How could a candidate like Hillary Clinton, with a resume that surpassed almost any other former president, lose an election to…well…you know. [Continue reading]

The church was an important part of her life, demonstrated by her involvement with the Art and Membership Committees, the Ministerial Committee for the interim assistant minister before Alicia Grace, Alicia’s Search Committee, the Care Team and the Meaningful Aging Group. REMINDERS

Pink Haven Coalition: Planning Meeting

Sunday, March 3, 1–3 p.m. in Knatvold

As many of you know, our trans and gender expansive Beloveds are under attack and being criminalized in many US states right now. This is so serious that they fit the criteria to be designated as internally displaced people (IDPs) by the United Nations. The Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) and Unitarian Universalist Service Committee (UUSC) are partnering directly with frontline trans-led organizing to create networks of safety and direct support for Beloveds who need to relocate, access healthcare across state lines, or stay as safe as possible where they are. This network has come to be known as the Pink Haven Coalition. [Continue reading]

A New Notion for a New Building: Capital Reserves

From Byron Krystad, UUC Director of Operations

I’d like to extend a personal thank you to everyone who has participated over the last eight years in the efforts to raise funds for UUC’s new building and the retirement of the line of credit used to pay for that construction. It is a remarkable accomplishment to have a new building and no long-term debt. It is thanks to the generosity of all its members and friends that UUC has arrived at this milestone in 2024. Congratulations!

Contributions to these efforts were so generous, in fact, that gifts coming in above and beyond what was needed to retire the debt are being directed toward rebuilding the church’s capital reserves. What are those, you might ask? Capital reserves are funds restricted by donors or designated by the Board of Trustees to be used only for the repair or replacement of components of the church building. [Continue reading]

Current health safety protocols at UUC: Facemasks are optional but welcomed, especially while singing. For the well-being of everyone in our community, please STAY HOME if you have cold or flu-like symptoms, even if you're sure it’s "just a cold."

UUC monitors Public Health – Seattle & King County COVID-19 data dashboards and advisories, updating our health safety protocols accordingly. We also consult CDC About COVID-19 resources to inform our decisions. We additionally track Washington State Department of Public Health Resources and Recommendations for Business and Workers for guidance around COVID-19 safeguards for staff and visitors.

Please continue to check in at a kiosk or on the paper sign-in sheet when entering the building. This helps us better understand attendance on Sundays and for programs and meetings throughout the week. If you would like to be added to our email list for church-wide announcements, please include your email address and phone number on the paper sign-in sheet.
