Each year, the Christian Medical College Vellore (CMC) and the Vellore CMC Foundation honor an individual whose accomplishments in life exemplify the courage, compassion, integrity, and character of Dr. Ida Scudder. We do so with the hope that each year's Oration recipient might inspire future generations to emulate the tireless dedication to compassionate healthcare and the well-being of humanity that is synonymous with the name of Ida Scudder.
On this the 13th anniversary of the Dr. Ida S. Scudder Humanitarian Oration, we are honored to recognize Dr. Soumya Swaminathan for her remarkable career in global health and her unwavering commitment to addressing health disparities. With a medical career inspired by a deep concern for underserved communities, Dr. Swaminathan’s pioneering work in tuberculosis, infectious diseases, and public health has impacted millions of lives worldwide, embodying CMC's mission to serve those most in need.
