Champlain Parkway Project

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS: 

The section of Home Avenue just west of Foster Street and just east of Queen City Park Road will be closed starting Monday, May 8th at 7:00 a.m. The closure will be in effect 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and is anticipated to last approximately 6 to 8 weeks. Local access to residents and businesses will be maintained. A detour route will be signed utilizing Queen City Park Road. Supplemental information to follow.


TRAFFIC IMPACTS: 

Please note, all work will be restricted to between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Flaggers will be present to assist motorists through the work zone. All roadway and lane closures will reopen during the evening hours and on weekends unless otherwise noted. Access to residential and business driveways will be maintained throughout the work unless alerted otherwise. Businesses will remain open! Motorists should anticipate rough and uneven gravel driving surfaces throughout the work zone.


Monday, May 1 through Friday, May 5, Home Avenue will be reduced to a single lane with alternating one-way traffic controlled by flaggers between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.


Batchelder Street will be closed during the day and will reopen each evening. Traffic will be shifted onto the Parkway alignment during the closure. Traffic on Briggs Street will be shifted onto the Parkway alignment throughout the day. Reminder, on-street parking along Briggs Street has been permanently removed. Residential and business access will be maintained.


There is the potential for Flynn Avenue to be reduced to a single lane with alternating one-way traffic controlled by flaggers starting Wednesday, May 3rd through Friday, May 5th to facilitate independent utility work.


CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES:

Crews will continue working to install waterline along Home Avenue between Foster Street and the railroad crossing under single lane closure. In addition, crews will be conducting traffic signal work on Home Avenue outside of the roadway. Reminder, this area of Home Avenue will be closed for approximately 6 to 8 weeks starting on May 8th.


Crews will be installing conduit and prepping Batchelder Street for pavement under daytime closures. The reconstruction of Briggs Street will continue throughout the week.


Conduit for future light poles will continue to be installed along the Parkway alignment between Sears Lane and Flynn Avenue.


Independent utility companies may be completing work in the project area throughout the week. BED plans to be onsite Wednesday, May 3rd through Friday, May 5th, to conduct utility cutovers along Flynn Avenue. This work may require single lane closures with alternating one-way traffic. No service interruptions are anticipated as part of this work. This work is weather dependent. 

PROJECT LOCATION:

The Champlain Parkway Project spans a 2.8-mile area from the I-189 intersection with US 7 to Lakeside Avenue, and includes upgrades to Lakeside Avenue, and improvements to the section of Pine Street between Lakeside Avenue and Main Street. 

The initial contract includes the construction of the Champlain Parkway from Home Avenue to Lakeside Avenue, upgrades to Lakeside Avenue, and improvements to the section of Pine Street between Lakeside Avenue and Kilburn Street.
