Greetings,
Dr. Compton mentioned recently that we all need to model the way. This week I decided to put some more tools in your toolbox to help you with modeling a positive outlook and growth mindset. Remember we are talking about gratitude this month and I am spreading the word that we need to be thankful all the time, not just for Thanksgiving. Part of my lesson is teaching the students that gratitude is a positive emotion and that all emotions are good, even being angry or sad. We need to be thankful for the things that may even cause us to be angry or sad. So we need to model being positive all the time to help our students be thankful all the time.
One of my favorite sources for information and beautiful graphic messages is Big Life Journal and the creator and author, Alexandra.
She recently wrote and shared the link below. “...(she) suggests shifting your focus away from your kids and onto yourself.
Modeling instead of teaching.
And one simple way you can start today is by using affirmations.
Print the list of 25 Growth Mindset Statements and Affirmations and hang it up on a fridge door (or anywhere the whole family can see it).
Share with your kids, "I'm going to use these daily affirmations to help me retrain my brain to be more positive and loving to myself."
Choose one new affirmation a day, share it with your kids, and repeat it throughout the day.
Ask if they want to join you next time.
Maybe one day they will. Maybe not. But they will be watching you and that's important.”
I think this is so necessary and I stress all the time for students to start the day positive. Every day is a new day, a new chance, a new beginning.
As always, let me know if I can do anything for your student(s).
Have a wonderful, safe Thanksgiving full of love and gratitude.
Hugs,
Ms. Carr
