Faculty-led communities to support Jewish and Israeli students and deepen research ties with Israel

Message from the Founders

A Year of Growth & Resilience

Dear Kalaniyot Community,

As we marked the solemn one-year anniversary of the tragic events in Israel, we are reminded of the importance of solidarity and resilience. The challenges faced this past year have strengthened our community’s resolve, and we are proud to see Kalaniyot’s impact growing both on the MIT campus and beyond. Attendance at our community lunches remains high, showing the strength of our support network and the growing solidarity among students, faculty, and allies.

Below, we’re excited to share recent accomplishments and invite you to continue supporting this vital work. As we approach Giving Tuesday, we hope you'll consider donating to the Kalaniyot Foundation to help us continue to spread our mission.

2024 Call for Applicants Launched at MIT

MIT-Kalaniyot is thrilled to open the 2024 call for applicants to our Sabbatical Scholars and Postdoctoral Fellows Programs. These programs connect Israeli scholars with MIT, fostering academic collaboration and strengthening the Jewish and Israeli presence on campus. These programs were enabled by the generosity of MIT-Kalaniyot early supporters.

  • Sabbatical Scholars Program: Welcomes established Israeli researchers to spend their sabbatical year at MIT, creating deep connections and fostering ongoing collaborations with MIT faculty.

  • Postdoctoral Fellows Program: Offers recent PhD graduates from Israeli institutions the opportunity to conduct groundbreaking research at MIT.

A Powerful Endorsement from Israel’s Academic Leaders

From the outset, we have kept in close contact with partners in Israel to make sure that Kalaniyot supports their needs. In March of last year, we traveled to Israel to consult with the leaders of many Israeli Universities and with Israeli President Herzog.

The Association of University Heads, Israel has now officially endorsed Kalaniyot.

In a recent call of Jewish faculty from across the US with Israeli universities VPs for international engagement, the faculty asked “what can we do to help?” and the answer was loud and strong “bring Kalaniyot to your campuses. Don’t let them isolate us.”

New Chapters and Growing Interest

Kalaniyot is expanding! New chapters have been launched at Dartmouth College, led by Professors Jeremy Manning and Daniel Rockmore, and the University of Pennsylvania, led by Professor Brian Englander. Interest is also growing across the U.S., with multiple universities actively working to launch their own Kalaniyot chapters.
