Dear Parents-
During this second week of Advent our theme shifts to the candle of peace, and we welcome peace into our lives. The theme of peace in our preparation for the coming of Christmas, encourages us to focus on treating each other with respect and justice. We can not control the world, but we each control our part of it in how we include and respect each other. “May we bring light and love to all we meet, that the darkness of sin and fear may be overcome with peace.”
Once again, we revisit carpool policies and procedures…..all cars MUST join the carpool lines that form in the parking lot area between the church and the school building. Parents are not to avoid the carline by trying to pick up students in the lot facing the front of the school. That area is reserved for students who WALK OFF THE PROPERTY and students whose parents are picking up as FRIENDS OF BERNIE contributors. It is critical for the social development of our children that they see important adults in their lives modeling behaviors that promote the common good. Let’s use this 2nd week of Advent to recommit to civility and respect, and please follow the rules.
Last Friday, all parents should have been able to access the Trimester 1 report card through the Parent Portal on PowerSchool for each of your children. If you were unable to access the report card, please contact our registrar, Mrs. Pearce at l.pearce@sjschoolva.org. Even though the report cards are electronic, parents must sign the report card using the digital signature box. Please remember to sign the report card! Parents with questions or concerns about their child’s progress are invited to reach out to the teacher.
The Christmas Concert is Friday, December 9th in the school gym, at 7:00. Please join us for an evening of faith-filled and time honored Christmas songs. Mrs. Lee and the children have been hard at practice and this is sure to be a great event. The PTO is sponsoring the SJS Winter Warmth Drive in conjunction with the concert. Unwrapped, new or gently used hats, gloves and scarves can be dropped off as you enter the Christmas concert. All items will be donated to needy families and will be greatly appreciated during this time of year!
In our continuing effort to improve the uniform-wearing experience, it is evident that the quarter-zip is the preferred option for students over the sweater options. To help us better serve family needs, please respond to the interest survey found here. One response, please, per family.
If you have any questions, or if I can be of any assistance, please let me know.
Refreshed, revived and renewed by "faith, love and hope." (1Thess. 1:2-3)
