DECEMBER 2022

Dear ROSA Community,

It is with very mixed feelings that we are writing to inform you that Lyndie Hice-Dunton, PhD, ROSA’s Executive Director, will be leaving the organization on December 31, 2022. She will assume the exciting role of Executive Director at the National Offshore Wind Research & Development Consortium (NOWRDC). While we will miss Lyndie greatly, we are happy that she will remain in the ROSA community as head of the NOWRDC, one of ROSA’s partners. We are optimistic that this change will bring even stronger collaboration between these organizations.

We have begun a search for a new Executive Director and aim to have someone in place by the spring. The job description will be posted in the news section on the homepage of our website next week. We ask for your assistance in sharing the application within your networks and welcome all suggestions for candidates; please reach out via our emails at the end of this message.

During the search for ROSA’s next executive director, Mike Pol, ROSA Research Director, and Helen Henderson, ROSA Administrator, will oversee the organization’s work, in close collaboration with the Board of Directors, Advisory Council, and Pat Field of the Consensus Building Institute.

Accomplishments and Reflections

In the nearly three years that Lyndie has served as Executive Director, she worked with the Board of Directors to establish the ROSA Advisory Council, which provides strategic direction for the organization, and to appoint Research Advisors, who contribute independent, scientific input to the Advisory Council and its committees. Early in her tenure, she worked with an Advisory Council working group to develop the Offshore Wind Project Monitoring Guidance and Framework, a helpful tool that outlines fundamental elements to include in monitoring plans. Other key projects have included: undertaking the Fisheries Resource Data Project to better understand types of fisheries research data being collected, sampling gear and monitoring methods being used, and gaps that need to be addressed; developing a regional research framework to help prioritize research; and engaging with fishermen on gear standardization for offshore wind monitoring surveys. Lyndie and her team have partnered with others regionally, nationally, and internationally, and more than 100 people are now actively involved in advancing the organization’s mission.

“Lyndie has helped establish a strong foundation for the organization,” says Peter Hughes, Co-Chair of ROSA’s Board of Directors and Director of Sustainability at Atlantic Capes Fisheries, Inc. “Lyndie’s strong leadership and her many contributions have poised the organization to start effectively administering research – the core of its mission.”

“Lyndie has done an amazing job of bringing together a wide range of stakeholders – including fishermen, offshore wind developers, academics, NGOs, federal and state representatives, and others – to collaborate on science and drive forward the mission of ROSA,” says Ruth Perry, PhD, Co-Chair of ROSA’s Board of Directors and Head of Regulatory Affairs, Offshore Power Americas, Shell Renewable and Energy Solutions. “This community is committed to progressing ROSA’s mission and growing the organization as the offshore industry matures. We are grateful to Lyndie for her expertise and leadership, and wish her all the best in her new role.”

In reflecting on her tenure at ROSA, Lyndie commented: “It has been wonderful to help establish ROSA and play a role in the organization’s growth over the past few years. I am proud of all we have been able to collectively accomplish and look forward to being an active participant in the ROSA community in my new role. It has been an honor to work with so many talented individuals, and I thank everyone for their support and dedication to ROSA’s vision of regional science.”
