Why Fundraising is Important |
Dear AL Community,
The Musketeer March kicked off this week, and in just a few short weeks, another beloved community event, Evening in Paris, will take place.
Events like these are critical to Académie Lafayette. They serve to support the school in a necessary financial way, but they also provide invaluable community-building opportunities. AL is unique in both of these aspects.
As a public school, we receive funding for each of our students. As a charter school, we have additional expenses, like purchasing buildings and providing transportation, that are not covered with public funding in the ways other districts are supported.
We are also a school founded by parents who worked tirelessly to create a high-quality, globally-minded, free education for kids across Kansas City. So many of those families are still involved with our school 25 years later - as board members, teachers, volunteers, travel chaperones. It speaks volumes to the grassroots nature of AL and how important our services are to this city. If you are attending Evening in Paris this year, you will have the opportunity to hear from two of our founding board members, Ruth Terrell-Lee and Ed Rucker. Every time I speak with them, I walk away with new insight and pride for our school. I am excited for you to hear our origin story directly from them, as well.
AL is able to remain independent from large corporate-backed charter sponsorships because of the support our families and community members continue give over the years. Thank you for showing up in so many unique ways. If you ever have questions about AL’s development approach, please reach out. As a parent of current AL students, continuing to build upon this wonderful community for all of our kids, both today and for many generations to come, is a priority.

Wanted: ALIHS Internship Opportunities | As summer approaches our ALIHS students are looking for opportunities to broaden their horizons and gain experience in the world of work. We are lucky to have many professionals in our parent population. If you are one such person and know of an internship opportunity for high school students in your place of business, please reach out to Liz Seely at lseely@academielafayette.org. Our students have skills and talents in a range of fields including coding, graphic design, engineering, and journalism. They are interested in everything from health care to education to technical careers. Thank you for taking the time to reach out if you are aware of any relevant opportunities! | |
