Outdoor Buddies Annual Clay Shoot

August 3rd, 2024

Register Now

This fundraiser provides a fun-filled day where corporations and small businesses can sponsor a team or two in our event where we provide a little friendly shooting competition. Individual shooters are also invited and very welcome to participate.

Pastries and coffee will be provided at the start of our day and a nice lunch is included for our participants, which allows them some team-building time and some time to network with some of the other shooters.

At the conclusion of the shoot, we will look at the scores and award our traveling trophy, as well as awards for the top three teams. Registration will be at 8:00 am and the shoot begins at 9:00 am.

Shooters may register as an individual or as a group of two, three, or four. Teams are made up of four shooters each; groups of less than four will be paired with other shooters.

Thanks From Chase and His Family

Chase Shares his Family's Adventures with Outdoor Buddies this year

I just wanted to thank you all for providing such wonderful opportunities for my family to engage in the great outdoors and for allowing my sons to appreciate the value of giving service and building community.

We have been so blessed to be able to participate in an upland game hunt, family fishing at CYO and an amazing time at Coors Field…soaking up the sun and fun while cheering for our Colorado Rockies.

Larry, Tony and the crew have been absolutely amazing to work with and I couldn’t be more proud of our affiliation with Outdoor buddies. We’ve been able to participate, as well as volunteer and it’s been instrumental in teaching my two boys the value of servitude, while enjoying the great outdoors and keeping our family traditions alive and well.

Thank you so much for all that you’ve given us and we are excited to continue to support your organization and have fun while participating and volunteering.

Attached are some great pictures from our time these last few months. Thank you for the memories.

Warriors on Cataract Adventure Report

We launched a 4 day Open Manifest trip (all branches of our military, all conflicts nd years, both sexes) on May 3 on Cataract/Canyonlands. Navtec was the commercial outfitter. We had participants all the way back to Vietnam as well as three women. A number of them also ziplined at https://www.ravensrim.com/ziplines. Geologist Lew Kleinhans gave the geology tour while on the river.

We ziplined some of the rafters. six links, two over 1200 feet long

Our 4 day Special Operations plus two disabled Ukrainian soldiers trip launched on Cataract Canyon/Canyonlands National Park on May 22. In addition to the Ukrainians Oleh and Misha, there were Navy Seals, a totally blind Green Beret, Air Force Pararescue with daughter, Marine Force Recon, a British Royal Marine, a Ukrainian interpreter, our geologist, and a photographer. In the Military sense, these soldiers are all Brothers. There was much bonding and cross-pollination. Kelli Rohrig of https://limbsforliberty.com/ brought them over and hosted them in the Denver and Vail areas before and after the raft trip. We have been enlisting the help of Army Ranger and Congressman Jason Crow with Exit Visas. Worldwide River Expeditions was our commercial outfitter.

Combat soldiers are adrenaline junkies. They like the Danger.

We flew the flags of all of these services as well as the Stars-n-Stripes and the Union Jack while under way on the River.

We will launch a 5 day joint Cheyenne/Salt Lake VAMC group with their Recreation Therapists July 18. The RecTherapists are probably more effective in many cases in healing the soldiers than formal VAMC therapy and pharmaceuticals. The rekindling of the camaraderie and mutual support the soldiers had in their military service is also a large factor in healing, and the raft trips offer a very good and effective venue for this rebonding. We will fly them in to a remote air strip in Desolation Canyon and put them in on the Green River. Lew Kleinhans will accompany to give descriptions of the geology. Sheri Griffith River Expeditions will be the commercial outfitter.

Two female disabled Ukrainian soldiers were able to get Exit Visas to join up on the 4 day All Female trip on the Gates of Lodore in late August. Our amazing Lead Therapist Karen House will be the Trip Leader. This trip is limited to 15 for more inclusiveness and more focused therapeutic activities. Karen does a wonderful job with these women. Many have been raped in their Military service and suffer from MST. Kelli Rohrig is bringing the female Ukrainian soldiers over and will host them in the in the Vail area before and after the raft trip. Kelli is incredible, travels into Ukraine often to aid in a number of ways. Sheri Griffith River Expeditions will be the commercial outfitter.

Now that the Ukrainian National Guard (the gatekeeper for issuing Exit Visas) has seen and understands the value and effectiveness of these raft trips and Kelli's hosting of the Ukrainian soldiers, we are hoping obtaining Exit Visas will be easier in the future.

Thanks for all of your support!

Best of Regards,

Fred Solheim

Recipe: Pronghorn Antelope Ragu

Credit: https://nevadafoodies.com

This is a hearty and uncomplicated wild game meat sauce recipe that is full of flavor using simple ingredients. It can be paired with gnocchi or your favorite pasta and finished with a light dusting of grated parmesan cheese. You can also substitute the ground antelope for ground venison, elk or turkey.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground antelope
  • 4 slices bacon chopped
  • 6 large tomatoes
  • 3 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 3 large leeks diced
  • 2 garlic cloves minced
  • 1/2 cup dry red wine
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1 tablespoon sage
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Cooked gnocchi or pasta

Directions

  1. Bring a pot of water to a boil. Score skin of the tomato a few times and carefully add whole tomatoes to boiling water until skin starts to peel. Roughly 1-2 minutes.
  2. Remove from water with a spoon and plunge tomatoes in a bowl full of ice water.
  3. Remove peel and squeeze out the seeds. Roughly chop the tomato flesh and set aside.
  4. Heat a large pan over medium heat and add 1 tablespoon oil, chopped bacon, leeks and garlic and cook for 4-5 minutes. Add ground antelope and cook until browned or 5-7 minutes.
  5. Stir in the chopped tomatoes, tomato paste and red wine. Once the sauce starts to thicken add the chicken broth and season with sage, garlic powder, salt and oregano.
  6. Reduce the heat to low and let simmer for 10-15 minutes. Add the butter to the sauce just before serving.
  7. You can serve this sauce over cooked gnocchi or your favorite pasta. I added the cooked gnocchi directly to the sauce and simply finished with grated parmesan cheese.
  8. Enjoy!
