From the Pastor

Time is always a precious commodity, but especially during the holiday season. So I'll be brief.

Lots of Advent experiences have been planned with you in mind as we ponder the many ways that Christ comes to us. Check them out below and make plans to attend some or all as you are able.

Thank you! Thank you for your financial support of St. Mark's in 2022. Thank you for your faithfulness in prayer. Thank you for your presence in worship, small groups, and service opportunities. Thank you for every expression of love and support you've shown to our church staff throughout the year. Thank you, St. Mark's family.

It is a privilege to serve God as one of your clergy.

Tommy

A Message from Russ Galloway

Please join me in sending a big THANK YOU to the St. Mark’s staff for their dedication and service to our church. Each member of our staff performs a vital role that supports the many missions of St. Mark’s. Their day-to-day efforts are a key part of what makes us one of the great churches in our community!

In addition to cards and notes of encouragement, please consider sending a financial gift. To designate a gift for the staff, just write “Staff Gift” on the memo line of your check. Your check can then be placed in an offering plate or mailed to the church office. All gifts received by Monday, December 19, will be distributed prior to Christmas.

Please keep the St. Mark’s staff in your prayers during this holiday season, and let’s keep working together to make 2023 our best year ever!

Upcoming Sermon Scriptures

This Sunday, we begin the season of Advent with a new sermon series entitled "Songs of Advent." Each week, we'll look at a different "song" in Luke's gospel and what those songs might have to say to us during this holy season.

December 11: The Angels' Song (Luke 2:1-14)

December 18: Handel's Messiah

December 25: Simeon's Song (Luke 2:25-33)

You’re encouraged to worship with us unless you’re sick or out of town. And if you’re out of town, consider finding a place to worship while you’re away!

SOULFULL Worship

SOULFULL worship is for those who can’t be in church on Sunday, for those who are looking for a different approach to worship, or for those who are looking for other opportunities to worship. It’s also great for friends and neighbors who don’t have much of a church background.

SOULFULL is now a part of our Wednesday Night Together ministry and is one of several wonderful opportunities available each night.

SAGES News

“Bringing our Gifts” Talent Show

Children have a natural sense of awe, wonder, curiosity and imagination that helps shape their spiritual lives. In Sunday school, we hear and reflect on God’s Word, experience spiritual practices, play games, learn Bible skills, ask big questions, and help each other claim our spiritual identity as children of God.

This December in Celebrate Wonder Sunday School, preschool children are exploring the stories of the Advent of Christ, including the angel’s visits to Mary and Joseph and the Nativity account from Luke 2. Our theme word is “HOPE,” and our memory verse is, “Look! I bring good news to you – wonderful, joyous news for all people,” Luke 2:10. See you in Room 305 at 9:15 a.m.!

This Winter, children in the Kindergarten – 2nd Grade are exploring 4 Advent and Christmas Stories.

Children in Grades 3 – 5 are continuing a journey through the Bible, connecting with God’s big story through videos, engaging Bible exploration, and hands-on projects through a new curriculum called “Connect.”

This Winter, children in Grades 3 – 5 are exploring 4 Advent and Christmas Stories

A Blue Christmas Service is offered especially for those hurting during the holidays.

Some come because they are mourning the death of a loved one. Some are far from home. Some suffer from illness, addiction, or estrangement. Some are lonely, struggling financially, or in conflict with another. Some hurt because of the great pain, need, and violence in our nation and world. The reasons for coming are many.

We gather in the midst of suffering to remember God is good. God is strong. God is near.

We are not alone, and we have every reason to hold on to hope.
