Hunter's Creek Middle School Community Brief

Monday, October 24, 2022

Dear Mark,

The first nine-weeks report cards will be available to students and parents (Skyward) on Monday, 10/24. Our teachers and parents worked very hard throughout the first nine-weeks to provide the best learning environment for our HCMS students.

As we have started the second nine-weeks, the instructional focus is at a peak, and our students are setting their academic goals for the year with the help of our amazing HCMS teachers and School Counselors. Parents! This is the time when you can sit with your student and review with them their academic goals and keep them on task.

HCMS participated in Unity Day, the signature event of National Bullying Prevention Month. This year Unity Day was on Wednesday, October 19. Pictures of our Eagles wearing orange to school as a message of support are featured in this edition of The Eagles' View.

HCMS Eagles will also be participating in Red Ribbon Week the week of October 24th. This is an avenue for schools to take a stand against drugs and to commit to live drug free lives. Please see the details below.

We are happy to introduce the HERO program as the HCMS Positive Behavior Intervention Support system. We invite our Eagle parents to register for your own HERO account so we may keep the lines of communication between home and school open. Look below for the step-by-step details.

Parents! Absences and tardiness rob our students out of important instructional time. Thank you for making this a top priority in supporting your child's academic success.

Have a great week Eagles!

In Eagle Pride,

Joumana Moukaddam, Principal

** Picture above: Thank you to everyone who donated to the victims of Hurricane Ian. Our donations will be given to Central Florida Mutual Aid who will be distributing as needed.**

To register, follow these easy steps:

1) Go to https://access.heropowered.com

2) Select the parent button

3) Click “Create An Account” (and enter a PERSONAL/HOME EMAIL ADDRESS)

Eagles making a difference!

From the Salvation Army about our Food Rescue Program:

“We received a call this week from Valencia College and their Accelerated Learning Program facilities. They have several campuses where students who are living on a $15 a week food allowance were struggling through the end of the week and the school was having a hard time maintaining their food pantry for them. So, we took them today’s haul from both schools [Cypress Creek HS also has a food rescue program]. They were ecstatic and so very grateful. I shared with both groups of student that we would be taking the food straight to Valencia and thanked them for again, rescuing food so others in need could enjoy it – and the students were excited to know that.

So again, thank you for making moments like this possible.”

Unity Day

Wednesday, October 19th was Unity Day where, by wearing orange, we showed that we’re united against bullying. Thank you to all students, faculty, and staff who participated!

Education Pays!

Four times per year, the U.S. Department of Labor releases their quarterly analysis of weekly earnings for the nation's workers. As part of their research, they examine the relationship between median weekly earnings and levels of educational attainment. They just released their findings for the third quarter of 2022 on Tuesday, October 18th. While all the numbers will change over time, the basic pattern has held up over decades even through economic recessions — those with more education take home higher paychecks. The chart below illustrates this pattern for the 21st century from the first quarter of 2000 through the third quarter of 2022 (grey bars are recessions):

Median weekly earnings for the 3rd quarter of 2022

  • Less than a high school diploma: $692
  • High school graduate, no college: $866
  • Some college or associate degree: $993
  • Bachelor's degree only: $1,452
  • Advanced degree: $1,769
  • Bachelor's degree and higher (a combined average to include bachelor's, master's, doctorate): $1,556
