.....January 9, 2023 .... .............. Keeping Fondren Fabulous

Goodbye Barrelhouse! We will miss you!

.....Fondren favorite Barrelhouse announced last week that it's last day would be last Saturday.

.....After 6 years, a combination of COVID and water issues, forced the decision.

.....“Over the last couple of years, we’ve had 150 days on boil water notice here at the restaurant. In the last two years, we’ve had 40 days in this restaurant with zero water pressure,” David Moncrief, restaurant manager said. “You can’t cook food; you can’t let folks go to the bathroom. If we have zero water, there’s almost no way to open.”

.....The lack of water pressure during the recent holidays kept the restaurant from opening during it traditional busy season. "We just can't bounce back from this one," Moncrief said.

.....Crowds turned out all day on Saturday to enjoy their signature poke nachos and speciality drinks - and to say goodbye to the staff.

Support Habitat's ReStore!

.....To date, 25 unique rental properties have been registered and 2 abandoned properties. Help us build stronger neighborhoods by identifying rental properties and abandoned properties - See below.

Help us identify Fondren rental properties

.....The City of Jackson recently passed a Rental Certification Program to insure that rental properties in the city are providing their tenants with a safe, clean and well maintained dwelling.

.....As part of that program rental property owners must register with the city and pay a $50 fee per rental unit.

.....Because rental properties have not been required to register previously, we need to assist the city with identifying rental properties in Fondren.

.....Use the link below to let the city know which addresses on your street, block or neighborhood are being used for residential rentals. You only need the street address and zip code, however, you can provide additional information and upload photo if you want.

.....Complete one form for each property.

Help us identify abandoned structures

.....The City of Jackson's Code Enforcement Department also needs our help identifying abandoned structures in Fondren.

.....All abandoned homes are required to register and pay a $50 fee for each abandoned structure.

.....Records show many Fondren abandoned homes are not registered.

....Use the link below to identify abandoned structures for the city to follow up on. A street address and zip code are required but you can submit additional information, including photos.

....Complete one form for each property.
