AN ODE TO SPRINGTIME

Turn Around. Every now and then we get a little bit restless and we dream of something wild.

Turn Around. Every now and then we get a little bit hopeless as we wait for temps to get mild.

Turn Around. Every now and then we get a little bit general at the PTO meeting Thursday night.

Turn Around. Every now and then we get a little bit healthy, then we see the itchy look in our eyes.

Turn around, SPRINGTIME. Every now and then our allergies start.

Turn around, SPRINGTIME. Every now and then lunch is á la carte.

And there's a "Families" page on our website! And the carnival is around the corner!

And we collected a ton for the food drive! And the school year's almost over!...

...Once upon a time there was light in the sky, but now there's only clouds and no dark.

Nothing we can say. A total eclipse of the sun heart.

SALUT FROM PRINCIPAL HOLDEN

Dear Normandale families,

For the past several years Normandale has taken advantage of a Federal Americorps program (Ampact), to support students in math and reading. Ampact, formerly known as Reading Corps and Math Corps, is a low cost, research-based program that provides in-school tutoring to qualifying students in reading and math. Normandale is fortunate to have tutors Zach Naylor (4th and 5th grade math) and Abby Duke (3rd grade reading) working with our students and teachers. Next year I would like to add an additional 10 hour/week Ampact reading tutor at Normandale. Are you or someone you know interested in helping struggling readers? Would you like to see a student's face light up as they "crack the code" of reading? If you answered yes to either of these questions, please consider applying to be an Ampact reading tutor at Normandale. Working as a reading tutor is a great option for:

  • High school students looking to do a "gap year".
  • Recent college graduates interested in paying off student loans and/or working with students.
  • Adults exploring, or re-entering the teaching profession.

If you, or someone you know is interesting in working as a reading tutor at Normandale next year, please contact me at Chris.Holden@edinaschools.org.

INTERN INTROS

SAHRA LAVIGNE-JOST

Third Grade

My name is Sahra, I was born on October 1, 2001, I'm 21 years old. I live in Dorlisheim, a small village in Alsace. I'm a fun-loving, open-minded and a cheerful person who likes to have fun and enjoy life to the full. I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Education this year, and I'm looking forward to spend a year at Normandale! I've been passionate about horse-riding since I was 4, and I often go hiking with my dog. I love to travel! I visited Mauritius, Mexico, New York, Greece, Egypt, Spain, Italy...I've already been skiing, I'm a beginner but I love it! I love hiking, sports, going out with friends or family. I'm very curious and I love discovering new things, new cultures, traditions and ways of life. I'm an only child on my mother's side, and have a half-brother and half-sister on my father's side. I'm very close to my family, especially my mom. My parents split up but get along very well, and I live alone with my mom.

Favorite Foods: When it comes to food, I'm a real « bon vivant » who loves and enjoys everything. But in winter I love raclette! I like cooking, for example beef bourguignon, bolognese, cake, ...

In The US: I look forward to meeting the family I will live with, to sharing moments with them as well as with the other trainees. I can't wait to share my French culture and to discover the French immersion of the pupils of my classroom. Of course I expect to discover the American culture as a whole!!

EDINA EDUCATION FUND

The Edina Education Fund is an independent non-profit organization dedicated to the continued academic excellence of the Edina Public Schools.

The Ed Fund secures private, supplemental funding to support valuable education experiences and innovative projects in the Edina Public Schools. Funds raised augment school system revenues that are provided by taxes, state aid, and other parent and student led fundraising efforts. The Ed Fund is necessary to help ensure the caliber of educational programs we have come to expect of the Edina Public Schools. Your support means greater academic opportunities for all students, today and into the future.

We are fortunate to be part of the Edina community that has a strong, valued and well-respected school system. However, to protect and enhance the value of our homes and property and the quality of life we enjoy, we must further invest in our public school system.
