Share Your Input for Improvements
The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) in partnership with Delaware Greenways and the Historic Lewes Byway is conducting a project to draft a master plan for Savannah Road in and around Lewes in Sussex County. Your feedback on it is sought and appreciated!
The study will look at current and future needs along Savannah Road and create a future vision for the corridor that aims to enhance the experience of all road users while maintaining the unique and valued character of this important part of the Lewes Byway. This is the last master plan needed for each major corridor of the Historic Lewes Byway before DelDOT addresses Five Points intersection. The master plan will be used to inform and guide decision-making regarding land use and development while identifying improvements for funding consideration.

The first public workshop on the project was held April 26th, and another is due to be scheduled in June. If you missed it, you can still read the project details, and provide your comments. Details here Your input will help inform the development of potential improvements to be included in the master plan document.
Lewes Bicycle Master Plan Underway
The City of Lewes has kicked off work on a Bicycle Master Plan! The first public meeting will take place in June!

The Draft Vision by the Lewes Bicycle & Pedestrian Committee is to 'Create a community that encourages walking and bicycling for fun, errands, and commuting.'.

Stating, "All who live, work, or visit our city will have access to a bicycle and pedestrian network that is safe and comfortable for all ages and abilities, is clearly identified and provides amenities throughout encouraging its use. This network will provide connections to popular destinations within and outside of city limits, resulting in a thriving healthy community."

Stay tuned for that June public meeting date!
Pedestrian Action Plan Survey
Read the plan, and take the survey HERE.
Having trouble getting around Delaware as a pedestrian?

Take DelDOT's survey to share any pedestrian challenges you've encountered, how that travel could be improved and your views on plan goals and objectives.

The survey will help guide their Delaware Pedestrian Action Plan which is meant to provide a path for DelDOT to make safe, accessible, connected, and equitable transportation facilities for all.

It'll only take a few minutes of your time, and will greatly help shape their plan to improve pedestrian travel our state!
Delaware Avenue Bikeway Project Survey
Our Future Trails of Northern Delaware Coalition member, Bike Newark, is asking cyclists who have traveled on the Delaware Avenue separated bikeway, to complete a DelDOT survey, sharing their feedback on it.

If you're a cyclist who has experienced this new infrastructure, you're the one who has the best up close and personal knowledge about it. Take time to fill the short survey out, now through May 19. Simply scan the QR code in the flyer at left or access it HERE.

Delaware Bayshore Byway Receives Federal Grant
If you read our email at the end of last month, you know that the Delaware Bayshore Byway was recently awarded a National Scenic Byways Program grant in the amount of $913,420. This is the first release of funding under this Federal Highway Administration program, since 2012. So it's really a big deal!

As an outstanding scenic motorized vehicle drive, it also offers many non-motorized travel and recreational options (pedestrian/bicycle/non-motorized watercraft) that are far lesser-known resulting from the lack of marketing information and common travel amenities like wayfinding and restrooms, leaving only experienced outdoors/sportspersons to take advantage of these diverse activity options.

First objective of the grant is to complete a Master Plan with two parts that will augment the existing Corridor Management Plan. (1) a Bicycle/Pedestrian Plan and (2) a Waterways/Paddling Plan, where both will inventory current and future non-motorized options, develop management strategies and recommendations, and provide a marketing package to effectively promote these options. Our second objective will enhance visitor amenities (restrooms and wayfinding) at two Byway communities: the Town of Bowers and the City of Milford. When projects get underway, we'll update you here and on our website.
