So you’re telling me there’s a chance…..
Henrys has been tougher than a $2 steak the past couple of years, kind of a big tease, if you know what I mean.
Just when Henry has let me down one more time, I’m more determined than ever to find the “holy grail”, get back up, dust myself off and cast till I can cast no more.
Truthfully, (yes no fish tale intended), as summer of 2024 rolls around, scales are tipping toward more times skunked than not.
Hold your horses, take a deep breath, let the caddis hatch breath some life back into the lake, time to saddle up and get back on the water. And yes, there’s been a bit of a bite as of late, in all the ‘go to’ places of the lake. It’s renewal time, optimism and hope abound, there’s a re-discovered confidence in our fly selection, casting and knowledge and abilities to catch fish!
The size of fish to net is nothing to be sneezed at. Some incredibly beautiful trout are
on the bite. Anchor up, 12’ to 14’ of water, cast a 5 rate sinking line, slow retrieve, tie on your favorite caddis nymph patterns, and some pheasant tail tied soft hackles and
let’m fly!
Even though most days have been less than productive on the lake, there’s always peace, beauty, and tranquility on ‘a lake like no other’, and I keep telling myself this as my flies are ignored time and again. But, Henrys has my heart, I love each and every day I spend on this spectacular, majestic, sometimes magical place, we call Henrys!
It’s an honor to serve on the Henrys Lake Foundation Board of Directors. I sincerely thank all the talented members of the board for their volunteer service and continued stewardship of the lake.
