October 29 Is Commitment Sunday

All members are encouraged to attend the congregational meeting called by Session for this Sunday, October 22.

As shared in both the email and mailed letter sent this week, at this Sunday's meeting the Senior Associate Pastor Nominating Committee will present, for your vote, Lucy Forster-Smith as their recommended candidate for Senior Associate Pastor for Leadership Development and Adult Education. 

Please plan to be with us for this meeting!

Living out Our Call to Be a Church Alive
If you have not yet submitted your pledge to the 2018 Annual Appeal for Fourth Presbyterian Church and Chicago Lights, "Called to Be a Church Alive," please do so by next Sunday, when we will recommit ourselves to actively participating in God's re-creating and reconciling work in this world.
 
Pledges can be completed online or by using the paper forms in the pew racks.
 
The names of those who have made pledges to the 2018 Annual Appeal for Fourth Church and Chicago Lights by or on Commitment Sunday, October 29, will be printed, as part of our gratitude expressions, in the November 12 bulletin. eclipseSpiritual Pilgrimage
From Scotland to New Mexico
This past summer, a group from Fourth Church traveled to Iona, Scotland, on a spiritual pilgrimage. Next Sunday, come hear them share their reflections on their journey.

You will also have opportunity to learn about plans for a pilgrimage to Ghost Ranch, in New Mexico, in 2018.

pdaA Documentary Viewing with ICAR
Film Based on a James Baldwin Manuscript
On Sunday afternoon, November 5, the Interfaith Coalition Against Racism (ICAR), of which Fourth Church is a member, is sponsoring a viewing and discussion of the documentary I Am Not Your Negro, based on a manuscript by James Baldwin. 
 
The event, which will be held at Chicago Theological Seminary, is free; those planning to attend are asked to RSVP to chicagoicar@gmail.com

The Fourth Church Choral Society in Concert 
The Fourth Church Choral Society has been hard at work this autumn preparing three well-known and much-loved choral pieces: Vivaldi's Gloria, Bach's Magnificat, and Handel's Zadok the Priest.

Come hear the Choral Society perform them, along with the orchestra, Camerata Chicago, on Friday evening, November 10 in the Sanctuary.

A Special All Saints' Sunday Service 
November 5 is All Saints' Sunday, a day when we remember the faithful who have gone before us and honor departed loved ones. As part of that observance, the names of all Fourth Church members who have entered the Church Triumphant in 2017 will be read during morning worship. 
 
In the evening, John Rutter's Requiem will be sung by the Morning Choir during a special communion service of remembrance at 6:30 p.m. in the Sanctuary.
