President's Message

Happy October! This is the time of year for the 2022 midterm elections, where voters will cast their ballots on everything from the gubernatorial race between Gov. Greg Abbott and Beto O’Rourke to local races for county judges and state representatives. Passed by Congress on June 4, 1919, and ratified on August 18, 1920, the 19th amendment granted women the right to vote. Achieving this milestone required a lengthy and difficult struggle and decades of agitation and protest. We owe it to the suffragettes who fought so hard for these rights, so Get Out and Vote!

Recently, I had the pleasure of joining several women from our Leadership Team for a panel discussion with the UTA Student Chapter. You can check out photos from the event on our social media pages. It was refreshing and inspirational to share our stories and hear what "drives" the next generation of transportation professionals. I encourage everyone to get involved with a student or young professional, become someone’s mentor, share your story, and offer the same kind of support that helped you grow professionally. If you’re interested in becoming a mentor through WTS, please reach out to Sherry Williams at swilliams@criadoassociates.com.

Thank you to those of you who joined us for our Membership Mixer on October 6. I enjoyed meeting some new people and connecting with those of you who would like to get more involved. If you didn’t make it out to the event but are still interested in getting involved, you can reach out to any one of our directors who will put you in touch with the appropriate committee.

We are just a week away from our 20th Annual Golf Tournament at Cowboys Golf Club. Hopefully, you were able to sign up a team. At this point, we are completely filled up! We are still in need of raffle items, so if you’d like to donate anything, you can reach out to Christie Gotti or Sherry Williams. Remember, our golf tournament is one of our biggest fundraising events. The money we raise is used to support our monthly events and programs as well as provide scholarships to women pursuing a career in transportation at local universities.

I hope to see you at one of our upcoming events. Until then, stay safe, take care of yourself, and respect each other. And don’t forget to follow us on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.
