Announcing Mr. George Kerr III as the DC CFAR Community Coordinator
Please join us in welcoming Mr. George Kerr III to the DC CFAR staff as the new Community Coordinator. Mr. Kerr is the elected Chair of the DC CFAR Community Partnership Council (CPC) and now joins the DC CFAR Administrative Core on a part-time basis. As the Community Coordinator, Mr. Kerr will foster community engagement in research and promote the participation of CPC members in activities across the DC CFAR and the CFAR network.

NEWS FROM THE DC CFAR
New Publication on HIV Prevention Services and Primary Care Providers
DC CFAR and Georgetown University Investigators Drs. Blair Spence, Katherine Michel, Lakshmi Goparaju and Seble Kassaye published an article in the Journal of Medicine October 2022 entitled "UnPrEPed for HIV prevention services: Hesitancy among US primary care providers". The study reviewed the provision of HIV prevention services by primary care providers and potential provider-level barriers to implementation of preventative services.

Join the DC CFAR Cure SWG Seminar Featuring Dr. Gregory Del Prete
Please join the DC CFAR HIV Cure Scientific Working Group (SWG) on Wednesday, November 16 from 4:00 – 5:00 pm ET. The seminar will feature a presentation from Dr. Gregory Del Prete, Associate Director for Nonhuman Primate Resources and Principal Investigator, Viral Persistence Section at the AIDS and Cancer Virus Program (Frederick National Laboratory). Join the DC CFAR Basic Sciences Core for a Virtual Lab Open House: Overview of Flow Cytometry
Please join the DC CFAR Basic Sciences Core for a Virtual Lab Open House on Thursday, November 17 from 12:00 - 1:00 pm ET. The aim of the open house is to provide CFAR members from across disciplines an in-depth look at lab services available to them. The seminar will focus on an overview of flow cytometry cores across CFAR-affiliated institutions. This event will feature presentations from representatives from the George Washington University, Georgetown University, and Howard University Flow Cytometry Cores. New R21 Awarded to DC CFAR Investigator Dr. Italo Mocchetti and Postdoctoral Opportunity at Georgetown University
Please join us in congratulating DC CFAR investigator Dr. Italo Mocchetti (GU) who was recently awarded an R21 from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) entitled "HIV promotes dendritic degeneration by altering microtubule-associated protein". This study aims to better understand the mechanisms of dendritic degeneration through microtubule-associated protein which would be instrumental in further drug development and reducing the incidence of HAND. In addition, Dr. Mocchetti is offering a postdoctoral position to work on this new project. Please contact Dr. Mocchetti for more information.

Join the "Best Practices for HIV Research Community Advisory Councils" Seminar on November 14 at 2 pm ET. Co-hosted by the Center for Interdisciplinary Research on AIDS (CIRA) at Yale University, the Providence/Boston Center for AIDS Research (P/B CFAR) and the New England HIV Implementation Science Network. The seminar will feature Dr. Arryn Guy from Brown University to talk about forming and running a community advisory board with a focus on HIV risk, and Paul Goulet of the Providence Boston CFAR to discuss strategies to build community participation in research based on his years of work in this space.

WORKSHOP AND CONFERENCES
FUNDING, TRAINING AND MENTORING OPPORTUNITIES
AIDSVu released updated interactive maps and data visualizing the HIV epidemic at the state- and county- levels for 2020. This year’s maps serve as a snapshot of the HIV epidemic during the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has impacted resources, HIV testing, HIV new diagnoses, and data collection over the last two years.

The MMRTP is accepting applications until January 23, 2023, for selected scholars to have access to webinars, and resources, come to an in-person retreat to discuss their research project and are matched with mixed methods expert consultants.
