April Meeting

April 15

5:30 Social - 6:00 Program

Does that stuff really get recycled?

Our speaker, Ray Partridge, will offer a refresher on how to recycle right, provide some insight into the City’s plans for Little Rock’s sustainable future, and answer the question on everyone’s mind – does all that stuff really get recycled? Ray is an educator, researcher, and community worker who serves the City of Little Rock in the Sustainability Office as the Recycling & Sustainability Educator. In this role, she provides schools, civic groups, neighborhood associations, and other organizations and individuals with education about Little Rock’s recycling programs and sustainability efforts. She has a bachelor’s degree in History, and Environmental Studies from Hendrix College, and recently completed a master’s in Political Ecology, Economics, and Policy from the Autonomous University of Barcelona.

2024 First Quarter

Devita Harden, Convenor

March 30, 2024

Greetings League Members;

The first quarter of 2024 has been a one busy for LWVPC!

At our first meeting of the year we were updated on the FOIA ballot initiative. In February we celebrated the 104th anniversary of the League. The celebration was awesome with over thirty members in attendance! On March 18th we held our program planning meeting for 2024-2025. In addition to our monthly meetings we have held several voter registration events, a candidate forum for Chief Justice of the Arkansas Supreme Court. The Leadership Team traveled to Rogers to be part of the Power the South Convening hosted by LWVUS and LWVAR. The convening provided local Leagues with information on organizing, partnership, membership, fundraising, and GOTV (Get Out the Vote). One of the best takeaways was that local leagues are open to meeting regularly to share ideas and best practices. The second quarter of 2024 is shaping up to be just as busy as the first quarter!

I encourage you to attend future monthly meetings or volunteer for the next voter registration event. Check out our website for upcoming meetings and events.

As you can see from the number of new members this past month, the plan works! Welcome to all of our new members, whether you were gifted the membership or found us on your own - you are so welcome and appreciated here.

Thank you for your support!

Calling all Members - For a Walk in the Park

April 14, 2024, 2:00pm at 1 World Avenue

Mary Lou Basham, Event Coordinator

In April 2023, LWV PC members joined in the Pilgrimage for Peace Walk. It was a memorable and moving experience on many levels and we gained an understanding of the ripple effect of violence as well as an appreciation for the power of our community to honor those who lost their lives to violence.

We meet at 2:00pm at Heifer International at 1 World Avenue. From there, we'll carry the LWVPC Banner as we walk through the River Market and across the Junction Bridge to the Beacon of Peace & Hope for the 3:00pm Remembrance Service honoring those who perished at the hand of violence during this past year in central Arkansas.

More information...

Remember to bring water, sunscreen and a hat.

Unable to walk with us, stop by and wave us on, or join us at the Beacon of Peace & Hope for the Remembrance Service.
