Make Becoming More Culturally Competent Your Life-Long Resolution

Civility is the word of the year for the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Civility is the act of treating others with respect and dignity. One way you can act civilly is by becoming culturally competent. Cultural competence is a life-long project. Here are four ways you can become more culturally aware today:

MUSM Alum and PC-ACT Scholar Returns to Hometown to Work With Local Medical Practice

Gregory Morgan and his family moved to Dawson County in 2006, where he graduated high school and lived for much of his college career before moving to Macon to complete his internship and residency. Now, several years later, Morgan and his family have moved back to Dawson County, where he is working as a medical provider with Anderson Family Medicine, a local Northside network provider.

Applications for the Primary Care Accelerated Track (PC-ACT) program and the Nathan Deal Scholars Program are now open. These scholarship opportunities are available to all first, second, and third-year medical students.

Clinical Research Summer Externship for URiM Students

The Robert A. Winn Clinical Investigator Pathway Program (Winn CIPP) for medical students is a 6-week intensive, immersive summer service-learning externship. Winn CIPP provides underrepresented medical students the opportunity to experience and participate in clinical research in a community-based clinical research setting. Accepted students will receive training in clinical research, community engagement, and leadership development and a $7,500 stipend for their participation during the externship.

 

The early decision application deadline is January 8, 2023. The deadline for regular decisions is February 12, 2023. Contact Ali Gemma, MPH, with any questions.

Summer Scholars Pre-Arranged Faculty-Student Project Application

Deadline | January 10

The Office of Student Research is accepting applications for students interested in starting their independent research during the school year. To apply, complete this application and email it to the Office of Student Research. If accepted, you will not be required to participate in the Summer Scholars match in the spring. 


If you have any questions, email the Office of Student Research or your campus’ Director of Student Research: Dr. Emily McMackin (Columbus), Dr. Bob Visalli (Savannah), or Dr. Gretchen Bentz (Macon).
