Scout Safety Moment: Homesickness | |

Many of us can feel a bit out of sorts when away from familiar surroundings, and Scouts are no different. Many Scouts experience symptoms of homesickness during campouts, and identifying and addressing these symptoms early can help make the event a great experience for everyone. According to the American Camp Association, most campers report at least some homesick feelings during one day of their camp stay. Common symptoms include mild depression, anxiety, withdrawn behavior, physical—complaints, and misbehavior.

Brick Program 🚨

A great way to honor your Eagle Scout is to sponsor a personally engraved Eagle Brick. The cost is $200 per brick which includes engraving of up to eighteen characters per line (letters, space and punctuation) with a maximum of two lines. 2024 Eagle Challenge Brick orders are due Friday, July 12th, 2024.

Richmond 50-Miler: August 5th - 9th |
The Richmond 50-Miler is five days of hiking on five different trails in the Richmond area! Each day will consist of roughly 10-miles with conservation service hours along the trail. Completing all five days of the Richmond 50-Miler event, scheduled for August 5th - 9th, will complete 2 requirements for the BSA 50-Miler Award.

Range and Target Activities Program Updates: September 1st | |
Range and target activities provide Scouting the opportunity to instruct critical safe firearm handling to all age groups while also providing an opportunity for a Scout to learn self-discipline, concentration, mental discipline, self-reliance, self-esteem, problem-solving and responsibility. Range and target activities within Scouting programs will be updated effective September 1st. Scouting for Clean Waterways | |

Scouting for Clean Waterways is a nationwide effort designed to inspire Scouts to reduce personal consumption of disposable plastics, properly dispose of trash, recycle trash when appropriate, and actively participate in cleaning waterways in their local communities. This new program will kick off on Earth Day 2025 (April 22nd) and will be associated with two awards; the SCENES (Scout Centers of Excellence for Nature, Environment and Sustainability) Award, and the SCENES Ambassador Award.

Cub Scout Summer Camp: Registration Is Open! | |

Ranger Challenge at Camp T. Brady Saunders | |
The Ranger Challenge was developed to allow Scouts who have attended camp for several years to serve in a leadership position with their troop in the mornings and have an adventure in the afternoon and evening. All Scouts are welcome with the knowledge that the program is both physically demanding and mentally challenging. A certain level of maturity and strength are a must.

Calling All Radio Scouts, and Scouts Interested in Radio! | |

The FCC Amateur Radio Service and Scouting share a common mission: service to others. The Camp TBS Amateur Radio Club (ARC) was formed in 2019 while the affiliated operating station was constructed. The station is located at Camp T. Brady Saunders. The goal of this project is to provide a space for STEM programs in radio and teaching the Radio Merit Badge. Membership is informal and offered to BSA registered youth and adult volunteers at no cost.

We're excited to offer Scoutmaster / Assistant Scoutmaster Leader Specific Training on September 21st at T. Brady Saunders for registered leaders throughout the Heart of Virginia Council. This training is required for Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters. 22nd Annual Sporting Clays: October 10th | |
Thursday, October 10th, is a bad day to be a clay! This signature sporting clays event is fun for both experienced shooters and novices. Corporate sponsors use the event to entertain clients and reward business associates. Carefully laid out around the beautiful Cub Adventure Camp in Goochland County, the course consists of multiple stations with unique presentations.
