Keep Yourself and Your Family Protected

Every 23 seconds, a fire department in the United States responds to a fire somewhere in the nation. To educate communities on how to prevent fires and stay safe if one occurs, the National Fire Prevention Association hosts Fire Prevention Week every October.

The observance is a way for public safety officials across the country to provide life-saving public lessons to drastically decrease casualties caused by fires. The Cleburne Fire Department uses the week to educate citizens on how to plan, prevent and mitigate.

October is also National Crime Prevention Month. Throughout the month, the National Crime Prevention Council provides tips on avoiding crime and preventing bullying. View more resources about those efforts here

Lines of Pink for a Purpose

Things are looking a bit pink at the Cleburne Sports Complex. In honor of October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, crew members at the facility chalked the field lines pink.

One in eight women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. Although rare, men get breast cancer too. Early detection is key, so getting monthly self-exams and scheduling regular clinical exams are encouraged.

Head to the Streets for a Free Family Festival

It's the perfect weather for a street festival, so come on out! Tomorrow, Oct. 15, the Layland Museum of History and the Cleburne Railroad Museum will be hosting a free family festival that will feature historic pastimes, delicious food trucks, games, face painting, music, dancing and more.

If you have a dog, make sure you dress him or her up in a dinosaur costume for the Dino Dog Parade. Read more event details here.

Barnstormer Saturday is Flying Through

Another free and fun event you and the family can attend this weekend—Barnstormer Saturday! Several historic aircrafts, including the Air Force One used by former President Dwight D. Eisenhower (aka “Ike’s Bird”), will be in town.

The aircrafts will be at the Cleburne Regional Airport on Oct. 15 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for all to enjoy. Free pancakes and hot coffee will also be on site. Learn more about the featured aircrafts here.

Make Your Own 3D Creation

The library is a space to expand your creativity, and the maker kits at the Cleburne Public Library do just that.

One of the kits available is the 3D printing pen. Instead of ink, the tool releases a plastic filament. It’s sort of like a handheld version of a 3D printer. You can check out the kit from the library. Head over to 302 W. Henderson Street during operating hours to get it.

Fridays are for Bingo

All seniors are welcome to play Bingo and make new friends on Fridays from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Cleburne Senior Center. Winners get to choose prizes that are practical, household items.

It's completely free to attend, so just show up. Not into Bingo? Not a problem. Take a look at the other activities at the Senior Center here.

PET OF THE WEEK

Add this pup to the list of cool canines with human names. Cassi is an affectionate boxer mix that is ready for a new home!

She's well-mannered, just turned 1 and is already spayed. She’s a medium-sized dog, so she fits well in pretty much any space. Learn how you can take her home with you here.
