Musical News

Sunday, a new endeavor to expand our musical comfort zone begins! Our Music Director, Kevin Anderson, will be leading the congregation in learning a new hymn at the Offertory.

He will also, in the coming weeks, begin giving us a little background information on some of the hymns we’re singing – their history, their significance to the service, or other tidbits that will deepen our appreciation of the role hymns play in Episcopalian liturgical worship.

In the Parish

Showing off St. Nicholas and its new Priest in Charge

On Saturday, July 13, we'll have an Open House with light refreshments. This event is open to the entire community, and the more the merrier! We'll need church members there to act as hosts and guides, so plan on coming yourself and invite your friends!

(If your sense of stewardship includes cleaning or maintenance, and you have noticed some small little task around the church that you've been meaning to get to, before July 13 would be a fantastic time. Contact Erin to coordinate.)

Book Club's June Read is Musical Chairs

Wednesday, July 10

Next Book Club Read: Musical Chairs by Amy Poeppel

GoodReads says, "With her trademark humor, pitch-perfect voice, and sly perspective on the human heart, Amy Poeppel crafts a love letter to modern family life with all of its discord and harmony." A charming summer read with a satisfying ending.

A couple of copies are available in the narthex; also available through PINES at the Harris County Library.

The St. Nicholas Book Club meets on Wednesday, July 10 after Evening Prayer at 5:00 p.m.

Mid-year Giving Statements

Giving Statements covering the period January 1 through June 30 went out Wednesday morning. We used our new accounting system to send most of them via email. Our system tells us only four people did not have email addresses on file, so if you did not receive one, check your spam folder first.

If you still think you did not get a giving statement and you should have - or, if you received a statement but have questions - please contact Erin in the office. She is very happy to get the statement to you another way and to help figure out mysteries.

Vestry Meeting

July 21

The July Vestry meeting will be on the 21st after the service and a brief lunch break.

Here are the Minutes, Treasurer's Report, and Statement of Activities from June 2024.

Pulpit Swap with Christian Valley Church

July 28

Our friends at Christian Valley Church have invited us to join their congregation for a morning of united worship followed by lunch!  Sunday, July 28 at 10 a.m. at 11175 GA-315, Cataula, GA 31804.

It’s sure to be a spirit-filled morning you don’t want to miss, so let’s have a big turnout in support of Christian Valley.

Wanted: Childcare Provider

We are currently seeking a responsible adult to provide childcare in the nursery during Sunday Services and the occasional special event. This is a paid position, and there are a few training requirements.

Contact the church office to express interest and receive the job description.

Your prayers are asked for Ann Bacher and Liz Dixon, as well as both their families.

Continued prayers for all those in need within our community and those in the world who have suffered due to war and natural disaster, especially the people of Israel and the Palestinians.

Please send prayer requests to pastoralcare@stnicholashamilton.org

Happy Birthday to...

the Rector's Discretionary Fund!

Did you know that St. Nicholas shares the love of Christ by providing assistance with utility bills? The Rector's Discretionary Fund offers up to $100 per applicant, once a year, to help folks make ends meet.

The need is great in our community and the Fund runs low from time to time. Wouldn't it be a fantastic way to celebrate your birthday - or any other milestone celebrations in your life - by making a tax-deductible donation to the Rector's Discretionary Fund?

Look for envelopes in the narthex to use for your celebratory donations.

Many thanks to Carolyn Cox, Jeff & Sheri Cody, Bobo & Barbara Morgan, Alex Garrett, and David & Catherine Johnson, who celebrated their special occasions with an RDF donation.

Happy Birthday & Blessings to...

Scaled-down installation planned for

Presiding Bishop-elect Sean Rowe

Episcopal Church Presiding Bishop-elect Sean Rowe, together with the planning committees for his transition and installation, announced today that they will forego the traditional installation service in Washington National Cathedral in favor of a smaller, simpler ceremony in the chapel at the church’s New York headquarters.

This service will be livestreamed, and simultaneous interpretation will be available in multiple languages to ensure churchwide access.
