"My accident was no 'accident,' and it all comes to one thing; what I wanted has happened and what I want will happen.”

-Meher Baba

Happy Early Summer from

Meher Baba’s Heartland Center!

We hope you all are well and thriving in Baba’s love.

We’ve had a busy spring welcoming pilgrims, working in the gardens, and continuing renovations at the Burleson and Morrison Houses.

The roof deck on the Morrison House was repaired just in time for the Sahavas!

On May 24th, we also honored the 72nd Anniversary of Meher Baba’s accident with a small in-person Sahavas in Prague and a virtual program on BabaZoom. For the tenth year in a row, we also hosted an international Japa, the repetition of Baba’s name.

All three were great successes!

The Japa

On the morning of the anniversary of the accident, during the most critical hours, from 5 a.m. when Baba left His hotel to when He was finally admitted for treatment at the hospital at noon, more than 500 people joined in the Japa - the repetition of Baba’s name.

It was a worldwide expression of love! People joined in Argentina, Australia, Canada, England, Wales, France, Germany, India, Ireland, New Zealand, Scotland, South Korea, the United Arab Emirates, and the United States.

One participant from Wales said, "I seemed to go somewhere far away with Baba, then noticed the time. He works in wonderful ways!"

Meanwhile, in Prague, ten people had traveled to Oklahoma to mark the anniversary in person at the site of the accident as well as at the Prague Regional Memorial Hospital where Baba, Mehera, and the mandali were treated and recuperated for 12 days.

At the actual time of the collision, people gathered at the site to say Baba’s prayers and for moments of silence. Sahavas guest, Hunter Flournoy, said of the experience: there is “a tenderness at the site, of all things, this great and almost unimaginable tenderness…that is surprising and miraculous.”

In the afternoon, people took turns visiting the hospital whose staff, as always, graciously welcomed Baba’s lovers. Keren Levine called the experience, “a true pilgrimage, it makes real what you’ve just read about… It feels like a sacred duty to me.”

The 72nd Anniversary Program on BabaZoom

In the evening, more than 80 people joined us for an hour-and-a-half virtual program on BabaZoom that featured a talk by scholar Peter Booth. He explored the impact of Baba allowing His Beloved Mehera, who He said was the purest soul in the Universe, to share equally in His suffering. Peter believes this set the foundation for the 1952 accident, which Baba said would “result in benefit to the whole world.” Peter concluded, “the Prague accident will lift us out of great darkness and into the expansive intuition and pure love of the heart.”

After Peter’s talk we interviewed Hunter and Keren live at the Heartland Center. In addition to sharing their experiences at the accident site and hospital, Hunter also talked about the pilgrimage that he and his husband Bradley Williard took, which followed Meher Baba’s route along the Trail of Tears to Prague. Hunter noted, “The drive itself will take you deeper into His embrace."

We then shared a short video of Nancy Nordeen, who in 1952 and 1953 traveled through Prague shortly after Baba’s accident and was amazed by the wonderful feeling in the little town. That was twenty years before she had even heard Baba’s name!

The other main focus of the evening was a performance by Jacob Horsey, who entertained us all from Australia with his lyrical, evocative music.

And finally, we had an update on the Heartland Memorial Initiative. Volunteers have been busy raising awareness about the need to preserve the hospital where Baba and the mandali were treated as well as the land adjacent to the accident site.

What’s next?

This summer we’re looking forward to hosting more pilgrims (all are welcome anytime!) and raising even more awareness about the Heartland Center.

The Heartland Memorial Initiative (HMI) will continue to spread the word about the importance of preserving these sacred sites. To this end, we are currently raising funds to, hopefully, one day purchase the hospital and land adjacent to the accident site. We are most grateful for your interest, and, of course, will keep you posted as new developments occur.

Please visit our website’s Heartland Memorial Initiative page for more information and the opportunity to donate or get involved!

And last but not least, we’re also looking forward to this fall when we’ll be hosting a seminar by Ward Parks entitled, “The New Life: Then and Now” from October 6 - 12, 2024. We'll be sending more information and registration details in the coming weeks.

With love to all in Beloved Baba's infinite embrace!
