Spring 2023 graduation will be all in the family for Diana Munoz and her youngest son, Gabriel. While mom receives her associate of applied science in process technology, Gabriel, an IMPACT Early College High School student, will receive his associate degree the same day. Gabriel will attend Harvard University in the fall. It’s not a coincidence these two are graduating together. Diana, a Presidential Honors Day honoree, accelerated her courses to graduate in one year to prove to Gabriel that she could juggle a rigorous school schedule and care for her three sons and husband. Diana's inspirational story is featured in the Baytown Sun.
For the first time since 2019, Lee College Huntsville Center held commencement ceremonies for its incarcerated students. The celebrations were spread among seven of LCHC's nine prison units with 463 graduates in attendance. They were awarded associate degrees in HVAC, automotive mechanics, business management, cabinet making, culinary arts, horticulture, microcomputer applications and welding. The Lee College Presidential Honors Day ceremony recognized outstanding students from every academic and applied science program. Instructors nominate the top student in their area of study who are committed to excellence in and out of the classroom. It is also a tradition to name an outstanding student from the IMPACT Early College High School and students to the Lee College Hall of Fame. Click here to see video of the ceremony.
