Harnessing the Power of Parks

Lincoln CLCs Recognized Nationally

1 of only 13 in the nation

This July, the Lincoln CLCs will be honored by the U.S. Dept. of Education for expanding access to high-quality after-school and summer learning programs - and it's no wonder when you look at some of their accomplishments in the 2023-2024 school year.

A few examples include creating sports leagues for kids who've never had the opportunity to play an organized sport, distributing Good Night Bags to parents with sleep challenged kids, and being an integral part of making a new skatepark a reality.

The CLCs partner with non-profits across the city. In April, they also honored Partnership for a Healthy Lincoln as Lincoln CLC Partner of the Year.

UPCO Community Development Project

New Park Fitness Center Dedicated

What’s easier or better for your body, mind, and soul than time spent in a park? Not much.

Studies find that living near or spending time in parks and green spaces is increasingly beneficial to our overall well-being. Over the past six years, Partnership for a Healthy Lincoln has collaborated with Lincoln Parks and Recreation and generous community sponsors to harness the power of parks to improve neighborhood health in three Lincoln neighborhoods.

The most recent project, completed in 2023, was in University Places' UPCO Park where new free outdoor fitness stations were installed. Mayor Gaylor Baird and others helped celebrate by trying out the equipment.

Keeping Kids Safe

Nationally more than 2,200 children die each year from injuries that happen at home.

The Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department serves as the lead agency for Safe Kids Lincoln-Lancaster County (SKLLC), formed with the purpose of protecting kids from their #1 killer – unintentional injuries.

In 2023, SKLLC partnered with Community Action Head Start staff to distribute home safety kits to families. The kits included devices to help protect kids from accidents in the home that can lead to death.

Partnership for a Healthy Lincoln is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving and protecting the health, wellness, and fitness of Lincoln's children, families, and seniors.

We work to improve wellness policies and conduct community level health research. We collaborate with community partners to promote healthy weights through good nutrition and fitness, improve child and maternal health by supporting breastfeeding, create better patient outcomes by increasing cancer screening and vaccination rates, improving chronic disease management, increasing preventative outreach, and standardizing clinical practices. During public health crises like the COVID 19 pandemic, we help to protect community health by providing science and evidence-based information.
Partnership for a Healthy Lincoln also works to improve health equity in our community, addressing disparities among racial and ethnic populations with the highest burden of chronic disease.  Systemic racism is also a threat to community health. We stand in solidarity with everyone who is fighting for greater equality and justice for all.
