Many fine artists were interested in the game of chess and designed chessboards in their own signature style. For example, Dadaist Marcel Duchamp was a celebrated artist as well as an accomplished chess player. He saw the connection between the two pursuits and felt that the cerebral aspects of the game challenged his artistry.

Art scholar and dealer Francis M. Naumann wrote Marcel Duchamp: The Art of Chess, an interesting insight into Duchamp's creative process. For more information on the book, CLICK HERE .
