We are so pleased to welcome a familiar face as a new member of our Grace family!
Evelyn Eickmeyer-Quiñones, (pronounced Kin-yo-nes) is daughter of Joyce Eickmeyer, and has been accompanying her mother over the past 4 years. She comes to us from the Unitarian Universalist Church of Charlotte and felt immediately welcomed as she returned to the religion of her youth, Lutheranism.
She has a degree in marketing from Bentley University, a master’s in education from Hofstra University, and an associate degree in liberal arts from State University of New York at Farmingdale. She and her husband, Jose’, have been married for 29 years and lived on Long Island until they decided to join her mother and brother and his family in the Carolinas in 2005. Prior to her retirement, Evelyn taught English as a second language and worked at Atrium as an administrative assistant. Jose’ has worked in IT at Atrium for 15 years and loves his job. They have a 12-year-old dog, Gypsy “the tripod dog,” a mix of a chow and a German shepherd, who enjoys having them both at home.
Evelyn enjoys cooking, traveling, reading, and writing. Her favorite reads are poetry and non-fiction. She is currently writing a book about the experience of learning a new culture as she became a part of her husband’s Latino family. She also serves as a volunteer in areas related to writing - volunteering for the City of Rock Hill Poet Laureate Committee, Afternoon of Poetry and Prose in Rock Hill and as a member of the SC Writers Association (SCWA) which Grace graciously gives a place to call home. She’s especially proud to volunteer for Family Promise and the Extending Church Ministry here at Grace.
One of Evelyn’s favorite trips was her visit to France where she visited Paris and drove all around the countryside. Other things to know about Evelyn: Her favorite meal is pancakes for breakfast, she speaks “some” Spanish, and is particularly interested in both senior care and mental health issues.
Please join us in welcoming Evelyn to Grace.
