FROM THE DESK OF

Executive Director, Dan Mauer

May, 2023

Hello, everyone — and welcome to the premiere issue of our new monthly email newsletter, Mission Matters!

As the summer begins in earnest, I'd like to take a moment to thank all of you who signed up for our new Missions Maker program. From Uganda to Guatamala, your generous donations are literally improving the lives of countless people around the world.

For those of you who would like additional information about becoming a Missions Maker, click here or on the graphic above to learn more about this program. It's the quickest, easiest way for you to help Medical Missions Foundation, and your donation will make an immediate and lasting impact on those in need.

After several years of reduced activity due to Covid, it's great to see MMF roaring back to life. So many exciting things are happening!

We have a LOT going on, including several upcoming missions and fundraising events, a brand new website, this inaugural issue of the Mission Matters newsletter, a newly energized social media presence, and a new incoming board… just for starters.

UPCOMING EVENTS:

Mission to Philippines | June 22

Mission to Guatemala | July 15

Health for the Littles | July 16

Mission to Uganda | September 1

Our Philippines mission has put together an Amazon wish list of things they need for their upcoming trip on June 22nd (just a few weeks away!) Please take a moment to review it — any contributions would be helpful and appreciated!

We're always in need of new supplies for our medical missions. Click here to see a list of other needed items. Before donating supplies, contact Sulamita Ortiz, Missions Assistant, to make arrangements, or call 913-338-0343.

On July 16th, Medical Missions Foundation is once again partnering with Big Brothers/Big Sisters to provide "Health for the Littles". We are in need of volunteers to help during this one day clinic - especially pediatricians. If you or someone you know would like to participate, please email us.

Please feel free to contact me directly with questions, concerns, or to find out more about upcoming missions, events, and fundraisers.

I will be publishing a new issue of Mission Matters on the first Friday of every month from now on, so be sure to look for it in your inbox. In the meantime, our FacebookInstagram, and Twitter pages are active and a great place to catch all the very latest news and information about MMF — so stay tuned and be sure to check back regularly!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Best,

Dan Mauer

“That it will never come again

is what makes life sweet.”

–Emily Dickinson

Medical Missions Foundation believes in the healing power of art.

In addition to the medical staff, each mission includes individuals whose primary role is to bring light and joy to patients through artistic endeavors. From painting colorful murals in orphanages, making paper flowers with children awaiting surgery, to having an interpretive dance party in the burn ward to loosen scars, artists of all kinds have become a successful part of the mission experience.

Beyond sharing their talents during missions, many local, national and international artists generously donate their work to MMF’s largest fundraising event Art for the Children. By uniquely harnessing two great passions—medicine and art—our vision of making a difference in the lives of the world’s forgotten children and families now shines in brilliant color in the smallest corners of the globe. And with the help of hundreds of donors and volunteers, we’re working to help even more.

The next Art for the Children event will be held in the Spring of 2024. (Check future issues of this newsletter for updated dates and times.)

–Ralph Waldo Emerson
