Season of Advent

Third Sunday of Advent - Sunday, December 13

The third candle of Advent symbolizes Joy. As we continue to approach Christmas Day, our joy grows more and more. It takes us back to the joyful anticipation of the shepherds who journeyed to see Jesus in Bethlehem, even before the wise men. On this third Sunday of Advent, which the Church calls "Gaudete Sunday," meaning rejoice or praise, we light the third candle and rejoice like the shepherds. For this reason, it is called the "Shepherd's Candle," and its color is pink, the liturgical color for joy.

Advent Wreath Prayers

Letter from the Vice Principal

Psalm 66:2 reminds us to “shout joyfully to God, all the Earth; sing of his glorious praise; give him glorious praise.”

Our Apaches have certainly done their part recently, as this week has been filled with celebrations, festivities, acknowledgements, and accomplishments, in virtually every area of the school. We began with a beautiful Mass honoring the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception on Monday, followed by our traditional telling of Las Posadas, a collaboration between our Spanish and campus ministry departments, ending with a delicious social filled with fellowship and music, thanks to our student volunteers. In the spirit of Advent, we held reconciliation and adoration services for our students this week, in addition to our annual Matachines and Our Lady of Guadalupe play, performed wonderfully by our students. ASL students were inducted into their honor society, Apache Life held another wonderful faith group meeting, and our Apache Band held another spirited Christmas concert, which if you weren't already, most definitely got you into the season. And while we ended the week with a little Christmas Karaoke during lunch, the real excitement came in celebrating our BACK TO BACK STATE CHAMPIONSHIP in CHEER! What an incredible achievement and what an incredible week!! It’s a great WEEK to be an APACHE!

Wishing you a restful weekend before the final push!

God Bless,

Gabriel Duarte
