This weekend we will also welcome Brian Ellison , Executive Director of the Covenant Network of Presbyterians, as our guest preacher for the 9:30 and 11:00 services.

You can find online the directions and the easiest routes for getting to Fourth Church this Sunday, which is also the day of the Chicago Marathon.

If you want to read or hear again Shannon's sermon from this past Sunday, you can do so via our website. If you would like to sign up to receive weekly sermons from Fourth Church by email, you can subscribe to the sermon email here.

This Saturday is the morning for our Blessing of the Animals service.

Bring your pets (on leash or in a carrier, please) to the Michigan Avenue courtyard at 10:00 a.m. for a time of song and story.

If you’d rather not have your pets accompany you, bring photographs of them and join us as we give thanks and celebrate the wonders of God’s creation, including our relationships with its creatures, great and small!

This Sunday we will receive a Peace and Global Witness Offering as part of our observance of World Communion Sunday. The offering will support efforts toward peacemaking through the Presbyterian Church (USA) as well as local efforts to address violence in Chicago through CureViolence.

Also part of World Communion Sunday will be our World Mission Coffee Hour, where you will have opportunity to learn about some of our global mission partnerships as well as gather information about our two 2019 trips: one to Cuba and one to Guatemala.

This weekend participants in our final 2018 mission trip, a " History of Oppression Tour"--which is sponsored by the Interfaith Coalition Against Racism (of which Fourth Church is a partner congregation)--depart for Washington, D.C. Please keep these travelers in your prayers in the coming week.

On Monday evening, October 8 at 6:30 p.m. in Buchanan Chapel, Fourth Church will again cohost screenings of films that are part of the (In)Justice for All Film Festival, a multi-day event showing films across Chicagoland, with themes ranging from mass incarceration to racism to human trafficking, immigration, and domestic violence.

Our 2019 Annual Appeal for Fourth Presbyterian Church and Chicago Lights is underway, giving us opportunity to celebrate the particular ways in which this faith community is committed to actively participating in God s re-creating and reconciling work in this world.

"Called to Be a Church Alive," the theme for our Annual Appeal, is also an invitation to each one of us to join in that work through our financial support.

In the days ahead, please prayerfully consider the investment you will make in your Fourth Church family and its work in 2019 and make a pledge by Sunday, October 28 : Commitment Sunday.

We continue to collect interest profiles as part of our effort to build community at Fourth Church. Those profiles can be filled in during Sunday Coffee Hour or completed at home by downloading a form here.

This weekend we will lift up the wonders of God’s creation not only in our Saturday Blessing of the Animals service but also by launching a new adult education class Sunday morning.

Care of Creation: Our Faith and the Environment” begins at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, October 7 in Room 5E.

This Academy for Faith and Life course, offered in partnership with Chicago Sinai Congregation, is a three-week exploration of specific economic and political issues at work in addressing environmental challenges. It will also offer us opportunity to identify how we might advocate for a safer and more sustainable environmental future.

The following Sunday, October 14, the Academy class “ Christian Discipleship and Civic Responsibility: The Impact of Gun Violence” will begin.

This three-week course, which will meet at 11:00 a.m., will discuss the impact of gun violence on the city of Chicago, responses to the epidemic on a local and national level, and ways we might be called to respond.
