October 2022
You are invited...

On Monday, Oct. 10th at 11am we will holding a press conference with Oklahoma House Representative Regina Goodwin. She will be presenting us with an official recognition citation for our work with people experiencing or at risk for homelessness. Monday is also World Homeless Awareness Day, and we are honored and thrilled to be recognized for this work.

Our staff works hard to help our clients fulfill their goals. From case management to our clinic, from our clothing room to night shelter, our teams our passionate about all they do. We know that housing ends homelessness and to date, our Rapid-Rehousing Case Managers have secured housing for over 270 clients this year with a 92% retention rate. With the lack of affordable housing in Tulsa, this is no small feat. We are constantly working with property owners to secure housing for our most vulnerable citizens of Tulsa.

We have been honored not only with this citation, but also our Executive Team has been speaking at various events for the United Way Campaign. As of today, we have presented at over a dozen meetings with more planned throughout the next couple of months (see photos below). If you are interested in having someone from our staff speak at your office, church or other gathering, please email our Director of Communications, Evan Taylor here.

Thank you for all the support,

Mack Haltom

Water Water Water!
We asked, and you answered! We were overwhelmed with the amount of bottled water we received from our Facebook post a few weeks back. Your faith groups, your organizations, your businesses and many individuals answered the call!

New Heart Church and the Terence Crutcher Foundation were just a few big donors. Thank you to all!

The Blue Team and Anosognosia
Thanks to very generous gifts from the William K. Warren Foundation and the Maxine and Jack Zarrow Family Foundation, the Tulsa Day Center has a new program underway aimed at serving individuals with untreated mental illness who are homeless and without insight or awareness of their illness. This lack of awareness is a symptom called anosognosia.

The goal of the program is to study our current system’s ability to work together with these individuals, to provide education and support to the system’s efforts to help and treat them appropriately

Housed!
Since January, we have secured housing for over 270 clients. M.W. (left) is an inspiration and never gave up on her goal of finding an apartment. J.C. (Right) has a smile so bright, the bear on his shirt has to wear shades! These are just some of the 100's of stories of success we get to share everyday.

The Tulsa Area United Way, #Day of Caring was a big hit at our shelter. A group from Tulsa Community College came by and helped prep soaps for showers, sorted and organize housewarming baskets and folded and sorted a lot of clothing for our clients. Thank you TCC!
