CHILDREN'S MUSIC
CELEBRATION

Our annual children's music celebration will be tomorrow evening, Wednesday, May 3 at 6:30pm in the fellowship aall. “Every child comes with the message that God is not yet discouraged of humankind,” said the Bengali poet, Rabindranath Tagore. And I would add that every child is a reminder that we ought not be discouraged of ourselves either. After all, children teach us so much about living an abundant life. They teach us that, among other things, love is for everyone, unconditionally. That we are surrounded by mystery, so stay curious. That everyone is acceptable because of who they are. That every day is a reason to celebrate. And that sharing together makes things better. Whether through the words of the songs or through the notes and rhythms of the music, there is a wonderful process going on that enriches not only the children but the leaders and teachers too. We will get to experience some of their infectious joy and love in this week’s Centerpoint program as the children of the Pre-K/ Kindergarten and Grade-School Choirs present a celebration through song in the fellowship hall. We hope you will join us. –Warren Howell

LUNCH WITH RPD,
DOWNTOWN DIVISION

Tuesday, April 18, was our second opportunity to mingle with Raleigh police officers at the downtown district and provide lunch as a sign of support for all they do. This month the lunch from our And Also with 'Que food truck was provided by an anonymous donor. Members of the Pathfinder Sunday School class (Nancye Gaj, Anne and Mike Cooke, Nancy and Bobby Phillips) delivered the lunch and Myra Brickell made homemade sheet cakes for their dessert. Next month they will be visited by the John Hiott Sunday School class. Please let me know if you want to involve your class in any way in the following months. - Nancy Moore Phillips, Adopt a District Coordinator
THIRTY-NINERS
 "OUT TO PASTURE"

On Thursday, April 20, 26 members of the Thirty-Niners piled on a tractor-driven tram at the NC State Howling Cow Dairy Farm. The weather was perfect and fortunately, the winds kept away any “fertilizer” smells. We began our visit with an educational tour of the Randleigh Dairy Heritage Museum; boarded the tram to see the calf nursery, milking parlor and feed silos; and ended with a sample of ice cream made right at the farm. Come join us on Thursdays at 10:30am through the end of May. We promise not to put you out to pasture and you just might learn something new!
PALM SUNDAY DEBUT

You are invited to the debut screening of Palm Sunday at the Longleaf Pine Film Festival on Saturday, May 13. Palm Sunday is a narrative short, retelling the true story of Jimmy, an African American man who attempted to join our congregation in the 1970s. Our very own Patrick Nichols produced this film, and many of our congregants made their on-screen premiere! This is a free festival with first-available seating, taking place at the Daniels Auditorium in the NC History Museum. Palm Sunday will be shown in the 5pm block on Saturday, along with many other short films.
AFFORDABLE HOUSING LISTENING SESSION TONIGHT

We hope you are making plans to join us tonight, Tuesday, May 2, from 7-8:30pm in our Fellowship Hall for a listening session about affordable housing. You're invited to come and discuss ways that we might partner together with other churches to make a difference with housing in our city!

If you're a resident of Wake County, you know that the affordable housing crisis in our city has reached an all-time high. What can we do to make a broader impact in our community? How might our church be a part of the solution that creates a more sustainable housing network for all of our neighbors? When the Dream Team polled community leaders during one of our listening sessions last year, affordable housing was one of the biggest needs they addressed for our city. We are hosting this session in partnership with Pullen Memorial Baptist Church and One Wake. One Wake is a non-partisan, multi-racial, multi-issue group of religious congregations, associations, and other non-profits in Wake County trying to make a difference with this growing issue. Please join us for this important conversation!
THEOLOGY ON TAP

The next time Theology on Tap will meet is on Thursday, May 18, at 6pm at Clouds Brewing (126 N West Street) . Join us for dinner, drinks, and good conversation!
LET'S PLAY BALL!

Our very own church league softball team is hard at work, and they're ready for you to see them play! Made up of 19 folks, the team plays games from now until early June at the Millbrook Exchange park on field #2, located at 1905 Spring Forest Road. The games are either at 6:45pm or 7:45pm, depending on the day. We hope you'll make plans to go out and support our team!

WINTER DONATIONS

The clothing ministry is preparing for more building maintenance on our space, and in the meantime, we are only accepting spring and summer donations. We will keep the congregation updated in the coming weeks and months for the appropriate time to resume giving winter donations. We really appreciate the continued support for our clothing ministry!

REPLACING YOUR
FLAT SCREEN TV?

If you are replacing a 50” or larger flat-screen smart TV that is still in working order, we would be happy to receive it at FBC as a donation. Most of our classrooms are not equipped with monitors for use with PowerPoint or to stream content from the internet. If your TV is 50” (diagonally) or larger, has full working inputs, and a remote, we will find a home for it in a classroom. We even have a dedicated volunteer TV-hanging crew (Charles Petty and Jerry Dudeck) that will mount it. If you have extra HDMI cords and/or you are removing the old wall mount, we would be happy to receive those as well. Please contact Wayne Hager, Church Administrator, before you bring your donation to the church. Thank you!
