COMPANY PROJECT UPDATES

Marr Scaffolding Company

Scaffold Division

Revolution Wind Providence, RI

Revolution Wind is a 704-megawatt offshore wind farm situated within Ørsted and Eversource’s federal lease area, spanning 256 square miles of federal waters between Block Island and Martha’s Vineyard. Onshore in Providence, Marr installed scaffold access around a circular structure known as a SIP (Suspended Internal Platform), integral to the windmill base. This structure serves as a training area for technicians, providing them with insights into the conditions they will encounter at sea. The Systems scaffold measures approximately 24 ft. in diameter and stands 80 ft. tall. The scaffold is tied to the SIP and braced using 5/16” wire rope tied to concrete blocks. Despite adverse weather conditions, Marr scaffolders persevered and erected a significant amount of Systems scaffold equipment. The scaffold was then enclosed in MonarFlex tarps and the project was successfully completed on schedule while prioritizing safety. Customer: Riggs Distler (Rocky Hill, CT).

21 Athenaeum St. Cambridge, MA

At the Kendall power plant in Cambridge, scaffold was erected to provide contractor access to existing diagonal steel bracing that needed repair and replacing. The scaffold was approximately 80’ tall and decked every 7’ vertically. One of the installation challenges was creating a span over an existing electrical room. The solution involved building scaffold towers with steel beams that crossed over the electrical room. This installation was located on the second floor and materials were delivered using the plant’s gantry crane. Customer: O’Connor Construction.

Mast Climber Division, Shoring Division

300 Binney St. Cambridge, MA

At 300 Binney Street, Biogen's new 188,000-square-foot office building developed by Boston Properties in Kendall Square, Marr Crane & Rigging provided hoisting services for Marr Scaffolding Company's installation of an electric F-200 mast climbing work platform. The mast climber was carefully placed atop a Marr constructed shoring deck, which measured 70 ft. long by 24 ft. high. The shoring was built using MASS shoring posts, ledgers, Aluma beams, S8 steel beams, OSHA planks, and Hilti anchors. Customer / General Contractor: Turner Construction.

Bleacher Division

128th Boston Marathon Boston, MA

Marr was excited to return to the Boston Marathon Finish Line to assist customer Interstate Rental Services in readying this renowned stretch along Boylston Street in Back Bay, providing seating for spectators on race day, April 15th. Additionally, Marr delivered and set up transportable bleacher units along Beacon Street, as well as tip ‘n roll bleachers on Commonwealth Avenue and beneath the Bowker Overpass between Charlesgate West and Charlesgate East. Congratulations to all the runners!

Crane Division

74 Middlesex Avenue Somerville, MA

Hoisting glass at 74 Middlesex was no walk in the park... Working together with customer Karas & Karas Glass and GC Consigli Construction, we met the challenge head-on. Armed with our Liebherr LTM1250-6.1 and a composite team, led by Operator David Brooks and Oiler Brendon Kourafas, we hoisted our way to the 16th, 17th, and 18th floors. But reaching those towering heights of 300+ feet meant thinking outside the box – cue the jib extension for that extra oomph! Amidst swirling winds and site constraints, every inch mattered. Yet, with careful planning and collaboration with our customer, we made it happen, one lift at a time. Another day, another job well done!

Customers: Karas & Karas Glass, Consigli Construction.

Isaac Blair & Company

5 Derry Park Dr Middleborough, MA

This three-level apartment building, constructed over a pre-existing cranberry bog filled with peat, had sunk approximately two inches. Isaac Blair worked for Landings Real Estate Group to shore the building so that helical piles could be installed under the existing foundation to prevent it from sinking any further. Steel beams, timbers and post shores were used to secure the framing and will remain in place for several months while additional work, including removing and replacing the cracked flooring, takes place. Customer: Landings Real Estate Group.

Women In Construction Week

We are grateful for the talented women of Marr – on the jobsite and across our offices in South Boston, Braintree and Springfield. Their contributions have helped us reach new heights for over 125 years. The above group photo was taken during March's Women in Construction (WIC) Week in advance of International Women's Day. These annual, concurrent events serve as a reminder of the significant contributions women make in the construction community. We are proud to recognize and celebrate their achievements.
