Meet new Community Care HUB CHW Kendall

What drew you to the CHW position in the first place? Do you have any past experiences that have helped and/or prepared you for this role?

What really drew me into CHW work is that I like helping people hands on. I like knowing that I helped relieve some of the stress and headaches that life can bring. I would find myself being told often that this isn’t how we normally do stuff here or I’d hear the previous individual helping would just give them the information; However, I have found that if you take an invested role, they, too, get more invested in themselves.

National Rural Health Day occurs in November

Since 2011, the National Organization of State Offices of Rural Health (NOSORH) has set aside the third Thursday of November to celebrate the “Power of Rural” on National Rural Health Day. This year, National Rural Health Day takes place on November 21.

Since rural areas are unique, creativity is a must when it comes to healthcare and addressing social determinant of health (SDOH) needs, such as mobile health units and community health fairs where resource information is taken directly to where the residents live or congregate in large numbers.
