Free! Skokie Story Stroll at Lorel Park

Bring the family to Lorel Park this summer and read the children's book on display along the park's walking path, "Something, Someday" by Amanda Gorman, national youth poet laureate. The book shares the poetic story of a little boy who observes litter and trash impacting the quality and appearance of his community. Even though he's discouraged from solving the problem, because it's too big to fix, he decides to make a change.

Aberman, Jaffe elected board officers

The Skokie Park District board of commissioners elected its new officers last week at its May 2024 annual meeting.

The board elected Susan Aberman the president of the board, with Ezra Jaffe elected vice-president. Aberman has served on the board since 2001; Jaffe since 2021. Both votes were unanimous.

The five-member board is elected by the residents of Skokie and is responsible for setting policies and procedures that benefit the park district and the community. The board adopts a budget, levies property taxes and is responsible for hiring and evaluating the executive director. All commissioners are elected at large and serve without compensation.

The other three commissioners for 2024-25 are former president Mike Reid, and newly-appointed members Antonia Kasalo-Terihaj and Courtney Williams.
