School Talk - 11.18.2022
Our Lady of Victory, Pray for Us!
iGiveCatholic Giving Day, November 29, 2022
#iGiveCatholic advanced giving began on November 14!

The #iGiveCatholic campaign is important to the Nolan Catholic Annual Fund because it is the school’s program for unrestricted annual giving to support the school's operational budget. It is the vehicle by which our community provides financial support to help keep Nolan Catholic High School strong. Each year, gifts to The Nolan Catholic Annual Fund help offset the gap between tuition and the actual cost of educating each student.

We are excited to share that we have already received a $10,000 matching gift that will be applied once our first $10,000 is raised!

"How Can I Contribute?"
Please join our campaign and help us reach our goal of $250,000! You can help by:
  • Donating directly to #iGiveCatholic with a matching gift of any amount. Your donation allows us to double our dollars on November 29, 2022. Please contact Mrs. Webb at kwebb@nchstx.org or Mr. Alves at jalves@nchstx.org if you would like to assist with a matching gift.

  • Support your student's class competition by donating via their Peer to Peer account.

  • Tell your friends and family members about the vital work we do and ask them to join us in helping to make a difference.
Student Challenge from Mrs. Webb
We all love a good challenge! Mrs. Webb is going to treat the class that raises $75,000 or more with either an evening of Pizza, DJ, and dancing in the gym, a coffee and smoothie bar for just the winning class for an entire day or a casino night! The class gets to choose any option! Who will win? Seniors? Sophomores? Freshmen? Juniors? Which class will show all their Esto dux potential?
Let us know if you have questions or would like more information. Please contact John Alves, Director of Development, at jalves@nchstx.org or Kristy Webb, President, at kwebb@nchstx.org. Thank you in advance for your generosity to our school!
Esto dux
Nolan Catholic Broadcast III students were excited to interview Lt. Col. Michael Hernandez from the class of 1990. Mr. Hernandez retired from the United States Marines after 30 years of service. Please enjoy this video link, and learn how our Nolan Catholic "Esto dux" motto inspired him.

NOTE TO PARENTS:

Parents/Guardians must call or email (from the parent’s email address, not the student's) the Attendance Office by 7:30 a.m. each day their student is going to be absent or needs to be dismissed early. This will alleviate having to wait a long time while the student is being located and getting signed out. If your student needs to be dismissed early due to illness, please call or email the Attendance Office BEFORE arriving to pick him/her up.

Please do not email the Admissions Office; it must be the Attendance Office in order to properly account for the student's absence/attendance.

Phone: 817-457-2920

If your student has a medical/physical condition or injury that requires an adjustment to their uniform, please email Nurse Miller at smiller@nchstx.org and Mr. Smith at ssmith@nchstx.org.

Thank you!

Theme for November 2022: Celebrating the Universal Church

The Church’s mission is not to oppose the world and society, but to work for their transformation by the convincing preaching of the Gospel and by the edifying power of the good works and example of those who are baptized into Christ.

Week 3 - The Church Militant
The church militant refers to the Church on earth. It refers to the reality that the Church on earth works to overcome the imperfect and sinful dimensions of human existence.

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. Eph 6:12

Week 4 - Thanksgiving and the Eucharist
The inexhaustible richness of the sacrament of the Eucharist is expressed in the different names we give it. It is called the Eucharist, because it is an act of Thanksgiving to God. The Greek words eucharistein and eulogein recall the Jewish blessings that proclaim - especially during a meal - God's works: creation, redemption, and sanctification.- Catechism of the Catholic Church 1328

So then, brothers and sisters, stand firm and hold on to the traditions which you were taught, whether by word of mouth or by letter from us. 2 Tim 2:15
*See Mass schedule for the week of Nov. 28 under "Upcoming Dates to Remember" located above.
Angel Wings Outreach
Nolan Catholic partners with Youth Advocates of Fort Worth to help the 25 neediest families they serve with clothing, household items, and Christmas gifts for their children. There are three (3) families that still need to be adopted!

We have created wish lists on Amazon for each family and have invited our student groups to adopt a family to ensure that all requested items are purchased for their adopted family. Items purchased from the Amazon wish lists will be delivered to Nolan Catholic High School, processed, and wrapped by Nolan students for CM hours, and then they will be delivered by YAP to these families for Christmas! Please have your donations delivered to Nolan by December 9, 2022.

World Youth Day 2023

November 27 is the first Sunday of Advent. Advent is the beginning of the Church Year for most churches in Western tradition, including the Roman Catholic Church. It begins on the fourth Sunday before Christmas Day. When the Church celebrates the liturgy of Advent each year, she makes present this ancient expectancy of the Messiah, for by sharing in the long preparation for the Savior's first coming, the faithful renew their ardent desire for His second coming, Catechism of the Catholic Church 524.
Purple is used to mark the season of Advent. It's a liturgical color that is used to signify a time of prayer, penance, and sacrifice. You can learn more about the meaning of liturgical colors here!
PURPLE OUT at Nolan Catholic
On December 1, students will mark the Advent season at Nolan Catholic with a Purple Out. Purple tops may be worn with uniform bottoms, or $5 can be paid to wear jeans and out-of-uniform shoes. Proceeds will be used to order any unpurchased items for our Angel Wings families.
