MESSAGE FROM OUR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Happy March!

There are a lot of great things going on! I hope you took a minute to read our 2023 Annual Report that hit your inbox recently. If you missed it, look here. You can give yourself credit for all the successes mentioned, because we couldn't do it without you! You are generous, kind, thoughtful, and involved! Thank you!

Read ahead, and you will find more things to celebrate.

Gratefully,

CHURCH APPRECIATION LUNCHEON

An appreciation luncheon was held to honor the pastors and coordinators who so graciously host the families in our rotation shelter program. During the past six years, 32 families have received compassionate hospitality from our host and support congregations. Many meals have been shared and bonds of friendship have been formed among the hosts and guests. Thanks again to all the pastors and coordinators whose support has helped make this possible!

Special thanks to Pastor Jessica Wright (Grace UMC) and Coordinators Joe and Becky Frank (Covenant Presbyterian) for planning and executing the luncheon. More than ten of our congregations were represented, and ALL of our congregations show God's love to the families we serve!

RECIPE FOR SUCCESS

Members of Georgetown Baptist church in Pottsboro cooked up a plan to serve others in divine measure! They compiled recipes, put together a cookbook, and designated that the proceeds from the sale of the cookbook would go to missions. Family Promise of Grayson County was given a generous portion!

Part of GBC's benevolent gift enabled the purchase of a new photocopier for the Family Promise Day Center! This much needed device is used to copy or print records efficiently, so that families can obtain services or benefits. It also is used for educational materials. The remainder of the donation was applied towards the purchase of a delectable 2008 Nissan Pathfinder that will be used by guest families for driving to and from work, school and the congregations.

We are so grateful that the Ladies Ministry of Georgetown Baptist Church has an appetite for serving others!

There are a few cookbooks left. If you are interested in purchasing one (or more!), please call the GBC office (903-786-2233).

Georgetown Baptist Church member Theresa Osborne poses next to the new copier. Theresa is a superstar volunteer for Family Promise. She delivers boxes of food weekly to the Day Center, ensuring there always is food available to give to people in need. Thank you, Theresa!

2024 "A FUTURE BEGINS AT HOME" GRANT

Would you like the chance to triple the impact of your generosity? By giving today, you can do so!

Family Promise of Grayson County was selected to be a recipient of the 2024 Family Promise National "A Future Begins at Home" Prevention and Diversion Grant. Family Promise National feels our "efforts to prevent and end homelessness are inspiring"! While this is a huge honor, to receive this grant of $15,000, we must have a $5,000 community match by June 30.

You can prevent more families with children from becoming homeless by helping us secure the $5000 needed to receive this grant. To donate now, click the purple button below, or mail a check to:

DEVELOPING A SPENDING PLAN

Independent Financial hosted a class at the Family Promise Day Center on, "Developing a Spending Plan". Family Promise Board member and Independent Financial Senior Community Development Officer Larsha' Thomas led an engaging discussion, and no one was ready for it to end! If you want to plan to spend some time with us, give us a call (903-771-0322). The date of the March class is TBD.

Classes are free and open to the public. They are held monthly at the Day Center (901 E. Houston Street in Sherman). Snacks and childcare are provided. A BIG thanks to Independent Financial for being a financial literacy partner!

Children play while their parents learn about making a spending plan.

TOOL TALK RETURNS!

Handyman Jason Barrett once again is sharing his skills and talent with Family Promise by offering a four to six week Tool Talk class at the Day Center. He will cover topics such as tool safety, basic plumbing and electrical skills, drywall repair, and preventative maintenance. Classes are free and open to the public. They will be held on Thursdays from 5:30 to 6:30 PM, and will begin once the class fills. To join the class, please call our office (903-771-0322).

If you are in need of handyman or window washing services, please call Jason at 512-579-1959.

GOOD KNIGHT!

Josh Knight, Outreach Coordinator for Knight Family Chiropractic, recently stopped by the Day Center to deliver a check from their Give Project. We so appreciate all the ways Knight Family Chiropractic helps our community! Thank you!
