Happy June and welcome to our monthly newsletter! This month, Florida Center for Nursing is preparing for the National Forum of State Nursing Workforce Centers annual conference and preparing for the next stop on the Community Engagement Tour.

The Florida Center for Nursing is a proud sponsor of the National Forum of State Nursing Workforce Centers Annual Conference in San Diego, CA. Taking place June 17-19, the 2024 conference is called "Accelerating Nursing Workforce Solutions: Innovative Programs and Data to Transform Policy."

In addition to sponsoring the conference, FCN staff have been selected to offer seven presentations covering FCN initiatives, trends, and analysis of research collected.

Florida Center for Nursing's Community Engagement Tour launched with great success. The first stop took place in the Southeast region of Florida at Indian River State College in Port St. Lucie, FL. It was a hybrid event with over 100 in-person and virtual attendees.

The Community Engagement Tour is an opportunity for healthcare leaders to hear directly from the community about issues impacting the industry.

At this first meeting, members of the community learned about FCN research specific to the Southeast nursing region, offered comments, and asked questions that will help the FCN and healthcare leaders on the listening panel address healthcare issues in the community and the state. The listening panel included Dr. Ahuby M. González, DNP, RN, NE-BC, NPD-BC, from Cleveland Clinic and Dr. Kris Poitier, RN, BSN, MBA, MHSM, EdD, from HCA Florida Healthcare. Thank you to Indian River State College for being such gracious hosts, and thanks to IRSC President Dr. Timothy Moore for joining the listening panel.

Next Stop on the Community Engagement Tour

FCN has announced that the Community Engagement Tour will stop next in the Northeast region of Florida. That event will take place at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, July 11 at 3:30pm. In-person and virtual participants will have the opportunity to make their voices heard and to find out about healthcare developments in the NE region. FCN has planned stops in the six remaining nursing regions across Florida: Northwest, North Central, East Central, West Central, Southwest, and South. Visit flcntr.org/programs to learn more.

Many Florida nurses are facing a renewal deadline right now, and Florida Center for Nursing is here to help. If your license is up for renewal, Shaping the Future: Becoming Nursing Faculty could be the perfect solution. Not only does the program qualify for CEUs, it could be the start of a whole new career.

This 90-minute continuing education activity is free to all nurses licensed to practice in the State of Florida. It is an online and asynchronous program, so nurses can participate on their own schedule. Click the image below or visit flcntr.org/nursefaculty to register.

The program is designed to help Florida nurses translate their clinical experience and expertise to academia.

June 12-15, the Florida Center for Nursing will travel to Raleigh, North Carolina to attend the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning conference. This year's conference is called "Collaborate. Innovate. Grow." Those three words are goals of FCN's, and the staff is excited to learn more.

FCN will also attend the Nursing Research Annual Symposium's "Empowering Nursing Excellence: Uniting Academia and Practice to Innovate, Improve & Inspire." The symposium will take place at UF Health Jacksonville on June 14.

FCN is a proud sponsor of the National Consortium of Florida's annual conference. FCN will also attend the conference, called "Caring Connections; Discovering Magic at the Intersection of Technology and Nursing." It will take place at Disney's Coronado Springs Resort June 28-29.

Looking ahead, FCN is a sponsor of the Florida Association of Nurse Practitioners (FLANP) Conference July 26-28 in Lake Buena Vista, FL, and a sponsor of the Florida Nurse Practitioners (FNPN) conference August 22-24 in Orlando, FL.

Action News Jax interviewed FCN Executive Director Rayna Letourneau and utilized FCN research for their article "Florida nursing students are failing state exam required to enter the workforce."

The National Organization for Public Health Nursing (NOPHN) was both founded and dissolved in June, operating for 40 years in between.

The NOPHN was formed in June 1912 on the suggestion of leading public health nurses. The first president was Lillian Wald, who coined the term "public health nurse." The NOPHN held its last meeting in June 1952.
