News and Announcements for the week of May 12, 2024

Calendar - May calendar

Welcome to Judson Memorial Baptist Church. Today is the observation of the day of the Ascension, the day when the Resurrected Christ ascended into heaven, 10 days before Pentecost. It is an odd day in the Christian year, what does it mean for humanity to be without the presence of God? How do we navigate times when God neither feels present nor seems to listen to our pleas? We won't solve all of these and more questions this morning, but they are great questions to ask and explore..   Travis

Hello, fellow gardeners,

It is time to gather in our rain gardens and do a bit of spring clean-up. I hope you can join us on Wednesday, May 8th from 10:00-Noon. The plants are popping up, and it will be fun to see some in bloom when we are together. Lawn bags and some tools will be provided or bring your own favorites. Afterward, we can enjoy lunch at a nearby restaurant.

After May, we are thinking of holding rain garden work sessions on the 3rd Friday of each month for the rest of the summer. Let us know if this would work for you.

Barb and Jane

From the Auction Fundraising Team

Early on (3 years ago), we recognized the need to focus on the broader questions of how Judson can move off the immediacy of fundraising to a more strategic approach to generating revenue. Each year, however, the urgency and details of putting on the fundraiser consumed our time leaving us little or no energy to address the bigger question. At the end of this year’s auction, all members of the Auction fundraising team individually decided to discontinue their involvement in the annual fundraiser. Over the next 12-18 months, we are going to try to develop a revenue plan that will hopefully put some structure to our approach to generating revenue. This shift in our focus presents a great opportunity for anyone who wants to lead or be a part of the annual fundraiser, a vital Judson revenue source. There is a fundraising project plan, documents, timelines, auction platform, etc., already to be implemented if the next group wants to utilize what’s in place. Or they can create their own or take a completely different fundraising approach. For questions about either the Revenue Planning Group or being Involved in next year’s fundraiser, contact Doug Harvey. 612-220-3521

Meals on Wheels - Did you know that we serve frozen meals to over 75 clients every week? We deliver those meals in handled paper bags, so, we always need HANDLED paper bags. If you have anything to donate, please drop off at Judson Church, 4101 Harriet Ave S. There is a yellow covered bin by the red door where paper bags can be placed anytime. Thank you!

Volunteer Opportunities:

 Tell your story!

We would love to hear your story – volunteer to do a Personal Reflection in worship! Contact Karla Forsyth at karlamcgray@hotmail.com

Worship Readers are needed!

Be a part of Judson’s worship experience – volunteer to be a Worship Reader! The Worship Reader will be involved in sharing Judson’s Land Acknowledgement, the first lesson of the morning (scripture or contemporary), and reading the prayer intents with Carolyn. The role requires a clear and articulate voice and the ability to convey the emotion and meaning behind the words, helping the congregation to engage with the service on a deeper level. We need you!
