"Our Call to End Gun Violence"

“As followers of Jesus, called to live into the reality of God’s dream of shalom as described by Micah, we must address the epidemic of gun violence so ‘that he may teach us his ways and that we may walk in God’s paths” (United Methodist Book of Resolutions #3428).

Once again, our nation mourns the loss of children, teachers, and staff after another senseless act of gun violence in one of our nation’s elementary schools. Evelyn Dieckhaus, Hallie Scruggs, and William Kinney are the latest child victims. Alongside them are the adult victims Mike Hill, Cynthia Peak, and Katherine Koonce.

The United Methodist Church formally adopted a call to end gun violence in our Book of Resolutions. You can read that resolution here.

We also have resources for families and those caring for children in the aftermath of traumatic events. You can find those resources here at the Discipleship Ministries Resource page.

Please join us in praying this prayer to end gun violence:

God of peace, we come before you, once again, after gun violence has claimed more lives. Care for those who are grieving, comfort those who are afraid, especially those who must wake up each morning and send their children to school. We pray for all who are considering this act of violence themselves. Intervene in their lives, that they might reach out for help and receive the care they need. Intervene in our nation, so that we prioritize our nation’s children. Reveal to us our idolatries that continue to be complicit in allowing these acts to take place. Relieve of us of our own complacency. Help us to remain compassionate, to advocate, to act. Help us to follow in the footsteps of the Prince of Peace and Lover of Justice, Jesus, who is our Christ. Amen.

Camp Read-A-Lot for students entering grades K through 3

There are opportunities to participate and serve

in each of these ministries.

2022-2023 Children/Youth Emergency and Permission Form.

For the safety of our children and youth, our Safe Sanctuary Policy asks that parents/guardians complete an emergency form for children (birth through high school graduation) participating in church activities each year. Designate the activities your child has permission to participate in so you only need to complete one form for the year.

We have two events planned for April.

One is our monthly outreach.

Due to the weather, we had to reschedule our

project with Harmont Fresh Market to

Saturday, April 15th.

Please let me know if you want to help get their greenhouse started.

We'll be there from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm.

For the second event, I'm looking at Saturday, April 22nd. I would like to go to Urban Air in Akron. It's only a 30-minute drive from the church, and it looks amazing. If you're interested, I would like to leave the church at 6:00 pm on the bus and return about 9:00 pm. If we can get a head count by the week before, it would be better because we can order tickets online. It's possible they may sell out and won't accept walk in customers.

Permission slips and waivers also need to be filled out.

Contact Matt Kluchar at mkluchar@faithumchurch.org or 330.727.1647.

Youth Mission Fund

Order gift cards year-round. Part of each order benefits the Youth Mission Fund. Check out available cards and contact Matt Kluchar.

Young Adults

We had a great first meeting, and

it was decided that we would meet once a month with the dates to be determined by our availability. We'll be joining the youth Saturday, April 15 from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm helping the Harmont Fresh Market get their greenhouse started.

Any young adult who is interested contact Matt Kluchar at mkluchar@faithumchurch.org or 330.727.1647.

We will be hosting a mental wellness/support group for anyone ages 18 to 23. It is being presented by NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) and will meet in our youth room Sunday, April 23 at 2:00 pm. Our hope is to make this a monthly meeting and snacks will be provided. This will not be a clinical setting, but rather a time of support and education. We'll be discussing such topics as mental health, personal growth, and self esteem. This group is a part of a new program of NAMI called Youth Move Stark County.

Faith and Environment

Healthy Backyard Ecosystem

Instead of only grass you can make a sanctuary in your back yard. Spring is a good time to think about different ways to honor and celebrate our planet, like using more Earth-friendly products, an outdoor ramble, or cleaning up litter. Here are some ideas to help!

  • Support our pollinators!

Bring native bees and other pollinating creatures to your garden.

One way to do this is by selecting the right plants. See how to build a pollinator garden

  • Take a hike!

Hike to a waterfall: https://timetorecycle.us16.list-manage.com/track/click?u=53638c4fd3b1f164786415bae&id=5975326b81&e=c641ff0666

Walk the Hoover trail, or a longer trek on the Erie Canal Towpath.

Notice the animals and birds, the wild plants, and the quiet.

  • Stop using pesticides and chemicals in the garden.

See how to use organic soil amendments to turn your poor garden soil into a nutrient-rich paradise in which plants will thrive.

  • Notice all of the plastic you throw away.

For instance, use and reuse grocery bags, carry a reusable water bottle instead of throw-away water bottles, and, of course, recycle any plastics that can be recycled.

The Takeaway – Enjoy our landscapes, oceans, and rivers, and nurture them for future generations.
