FROM PASTOR ANN

This special litany for election season was Taken from here. Feel free to do this litany at home with loved ones as we all get through this election.

WELCOME!

We worship in the name of God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Amen!

Scripture reminds us to place our trust in the Lord, and not in earthly rulers, political parties, or nations.

LISTEN TO THE WORD OF THE LORD: (Taken from Psalm 146)

Don’t trust leaders;

don’t trust any human beings—

there’s no saving help with them!

Their breath leaves them,

then they go back to the ground.

On that very same day, their plans die too.

The person whose help is the God of Jacob—

the person whose hope rests on the Lord their God—

is truly happy!

God: the maker of heaven and earth,

the sea, and all that is in them,

God: who is faithful forever,

who gives justice to people who are oppressed,

who gives bread to people who are starving!

The Lord: who frees prisoners.

The Lord: who makes the blind see.

The Lord: who straightens up those who are bent low.

The Lord: who loves the righteous.

The Lord: who protects immigrants,

who helps orphans and widows,

but who makes the way of the wicked twist and turn!

The Lord will rule forever!

Zion, your God will rule from one generation to the next!

LITANY

With our trust in the Lord our God, we raise our voices together – asking to be guided in this season by the wisdom, mercy, and compassion of the Lord.

Lord God, ruler of all,

We give thanks for the right to vote, and for those who fought have placed their lives on the line to secure this right. Help us to approach this responsibility as an act of faith, with prayer and discernment.

God of all nations,

Guide us toward wisdom and love.

Lord God, ruler of all,

Watch over all candidates in this election and their families. Protect them from hatred and the unkindness of the election season. Stir them to speak and act with integrity.

God of all nations,

Guide us toward wisdom and love.

Lord God, ruler of all,

Be present at all polling locations, that they would be places of peace and democracy.

God of all nations,

Guide us toward wisdom and love.

Lord God, ruler of all,

Open our hearts and eyes to the least of your children, that our votes would represent an in-breaking of your kingdom here in this place.

God of all nations,

Guide us toward wisdom and love.

Lord God, ruler of all,

In a season of division, remind us as a community of faith that what unites us is more powerful than what divides us.

God of all nations,

Guide us toward wisdom and love.

Lord God, ruler of all,

Help us all to truly love our neighbor, and to act with love in all things.

God of all nations,

Guide us toward wisdom and love.

PRAYER OF THE DAY

Lord God, ruler of all nations,

You are the source of all rights and authority. Guide the people of the United State, the state of Texas, and Montgomery county in the election of faithful and capable officials; that through just legislation and wise administration the rights and dignity of all in our nation may be preserved.

Remind us that you are our strong guardian and our sure defense; a mighty fortress and our never failing shepherd.

As you raised Jesus from the tomb, lead us from death to life, from despair to hope, from hatred to love, from war to peace;

Through your Son, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Amen.

Bible Study:

1 Kings 17:8-16

Then the word of the Lord came to him, saying, “Go now to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and live there, for I have commanded a widow there to feed you.” 10 So he set out and went to Zarephath. When he came to the gate of the town, a widow was there gathering sticks; he called to her and said, “Bring me a little water in a vessel, so that I may drink.” 11 As she was going to bring it, he called to her and said, “Bring me a morsel of bread in your hand.” 12 But she said, “As the Lord your God lives, I have nothing baked, only a handful of meal in a jar and a little oil in a jug; I am now gathering a couple of sticks so that I may go home and prepare it for myself and my son, that we may eat it and die.” 13 Elijah said to her, “Do not be afraid; go and do as you have said, but first make me a little cake of it and bring it to me, and afterward make something for yourself and your son. 14 For thus says the Lord the God of Israel: The jar of meal will not be emptied and the jug of oil will not fail until the day that the Lord sends rain on the earth.” 15 She went and did as Elijah said, so that she as well as he and her household ate for many days. 16 The jar of meal was not emptied, neither did the jug of oil fail, according to the word of the Lord that he spoke by Elijah.

Hebrews 9:24-28

24 For Christ did not enter a sanctuary made by human hands, a mere copy of the true one, but he entered into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God on our behalf. 25 Nor was it to offer himself again and again, as the high priest enters the holy place year after year with blood that is not his own, 26 for then he would have had to suffer again and again since the foundation of the world. But as it is, he has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to remove sin by the sacrifice of himself. 27 And just as it is appointed for mortals to die once and after that the judgment, 28 so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.

Mark 12:38-44

38 As he taught, he said, “Beware of the scribes, who like to walk around in long robes and to be greeted with respect in the marketplaces 39 and to have the best seats in the synagogues and places of honor at banquets! 40 They devour widows’ houses and for the sake of appearance say long prayers. They will receive the greater condemnation.”

41 He sat down opposite the treasury and watched the crowd putting money into the treasury. Many rich people put in large sums. 42 A poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which are worth a penny. 43 Then he called his disciples and said to them, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the treasury. 44 For all of them have contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on.”

EVENTS & INFOS

Please remember in prayer the family of Pr. Tim Stadem (Jackson, WY) as they grieve the death of his father, Leroy Stadem, who died Wednesday, October 30. Leroy Stadem was 97 years old and served in the American Lutheran Church as well as the ELCA in South Dakota. Leroy’s funeral will take place in Sioux Falls, SD, Saturday, November 9.

Almighty God, your love never fails, and you can turn the shadow of death into daybreak. Help us to receive your word with believing hearts, so that, confident in your promises, we may have hope and be lifted out of sorrow into the joy and peace of your presence; through Jesus Christ our Savior and Lord. Amen.

Food can be a delightful expression of individuality and

creativity! Whether you choose to bring a simple dish that warms the heart or

an extravagant culinary creation, the important thing is that you feel inspired

have the freedom to decide what resonates with you. The only rule is we can't

save leftovers once they hit the counter.
