Readings for Sunday:

Explore and Enrich Your Faith: Adult Forum

Sundays at 9:00 a.m.

Are you interested in diving deeper into your faith in a small group environment? Build spiritual awareness and educate yourself on topics you may be curious about before the service each Sunday at Adult Forum.

The current series is led by David Johnson: Using the Day By Day booklets as a guide we will discuss the readings, and take a deeper dive into the meaning and biblical passages from which they are drawn. Each person will be asked to be responsible for one reading per week.

Evening Prayer

Wednesday, May 1

5:00 p.m.

In the Parish

Invite your friends! It’s almost time for some toe-tappin’, hand-clappin’ gospel music played by Heaven’s Harvest Bluegrass Band! You won’t want to miss this annual musical treat on Sunday, May 5 at 10 a.m.!

In addition to enjoying a service with great bluegrass music, we’ll have lunch on the grounds following the service. St. Nicholas will provide chicken. Please bring a side dish to add to the spread! (Sign-up sheet in the narthex.)

Book Club Selects As I Lay Dying for May

All present were impressed by Bruce Feiler’s adventurous undertaking. Those who have seen the PBS special of 2014 were also awed with the filming and believe we should share a viewing. We should talk up a watch party at church soon.

We reviewed a new list of possible future selections extracted from the Reedsy.com book blog and chose As I Lay Dying by William Faulkner. It is among the most accessible of Faulkner’s writings and recommended by David Johnson, our own Faulkner scholar.

With David’s insights, we will discuss As I Lay Dying at our next meeting on May 8th following 5:00 pm Evening Prayer.

May 11 Church Workday Canceled (but)

Due to lack of response and climbing temperatures, the Church Work Day originally scheduled for May 11 has been canceled.

But... We are looking for thumbs - green and otherwise - to help with the landscaping, especially in the Memory Garden and around our large sign.

If you enjoy puttering about the garden, feel free to contact Erin in the office and she will get you to the right person to coordinate with.

Sunday Treats!

Parish Life kicked off post-service Fellowship time on Easter Sunday with cookies and lemonade. We'd like to continue this tradition on Sundays to give us a few minutes after the service to just enjoy each other's company.

If you'd like to bring a simple treat one Sunday a sign-up sheet is in the narthex.

Childcare Provider Wanted

We are currently seeking a responsible adult to provide childcare in the nursery during Sunday Services and the occasional special event. This is a paid position, and there are training requirements.

Contact the church office to express interest and receive the job description.

Celebrating Our Graduates

We will be recognizing and celebrating our graduates on Sunday, May 19, during the service and after in our fellowship time.

Please contact the office if you know of a student in our congregation - high school, college, other other - who should be recognized.

Prayer Requests

Your prayers are requested for our beloved church family member, Riley Anne Johnson; and Carolyn Cox's cousin, Janet Scent Hume.

Continued prayers for all those in need within our community and those in the world who have suffered due to war and natural disaster. We pray for peace for the people of Israel and the Palestinians.

Please send all prayer requests to pastoralcare@stnicholashamilton.org.
