Feedback from Our Community
We received this kind note about our Permit Tech Sharon Johnson that we wanted to share.
“I hope this finds you well! I need to take a moment and brag on one of your employees - Sharon Johnson. We have been working with Sharon on permitting for one of our clients and to say she has been helpful would be an understatement. We have had bumps in the road at nearly every turn with this project and it has been quite an undertaking trying to keep all the municipalities and their requirements straight. Sharon has been so helpful and patient as I have navigated all of this, which is such a breath of fresh air.
The permitting process can get confusing, especially when you are not familiar with it. Having someone as pleasant and helpful as Sharon truly makes all the difference in the world.
Thank you so much for all that you guys do!”
Great job, Sharon! We’re happy to have you on the TOKI team.

Shorebird Nesting Season Has Begun
American Oystercatchers and Wilson’s Plovers have started to pair up and stake out nesting territories, and we received word that the first Least Terns have returned to Kiawah! To protect these birds while they are nesting, the Town closes a portion of the upper beach and dunes at the eastern end of the island. Eggs are laid directly on the sand and can easily be stepped on due to their exceptional camouflage. Disturbance will also cause an adult to flee from the nest, exposing the eggs and chicks to the heat of the sun and predators.
The nesting area is clearly marked with yellow signs (see map below). Please avoid walking through the nesting area and remind those around you to do the same. Thank you for doing your part to protect Kiawah’s shorebirds!

Sea Islands Shorebird Festival
The first Sea Islands Shorebird Festival is a 2-day event (May 11 & 12) hosted and organized by local municipalities, governmental agencies, volunteer groups, and non-profit organizations working on coastal bird conservation and education. The festival celebrates the critically important sites of Seabrook and Kiawah Island for shorebirds, notably for the federally threatened Red Knot, for which these islands play a crucial role during their northern migration.
The festival aims to celebrate shorebirds and the islands they depend on, educate community members and visitors, and raise awareness to protect these magnificent birds and places.
Click here to visit the Sea Islands Shorebird Festival website.
Click here to register for the various educational events that are lined up. No registration required for The Feather Fest. Tickets to the Red Knot Reception are required and priced at $10.
