Two Savannah Churches to host Important Storytelling Events

Play at St. Matthew's

Anne and Emmett, a play by Janet Langhart Cohen, will be performed at the Jewish Educational Alliance, Tuesday, February 27 at 7:00 p.m., Saturday, March 2nd at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, March 3rd at 3:00 p.m. before going "on the road" to area locations.

The play is about an imagined conversation between two figures from history – teenagers, who were the victims of institutional terrorism. The discussion takes place between Anne Frank, a Jewish girl killed in 1945 during the Holocaust, and Emmett Till, a young black man, from Chicago, murdered while visiting family in Mississippi in 1955. They meet in a place called Memory, where they share their experiences with bigotry and injustice, highlighting the striking similarities between their horrific deaths.

The play is produced by the Jewish Community Foundation of Savannah. This is open and free to the public, but attendees are asked to register here.

When: Wednesday, February 28, 7:00pm

Where: 1401 Martin Luther King Blvd., Savannah, GA

Documentary Screening at St. Peter's

St. Peter's in Savannah is hosting a screening of the documentary 'The Philadelphia Eleven.' The event is open and free to the public, with the opportunity to give a donation. Seating will be first come, first serve, and snacks will be provided.

The diocese had a screening of the documentary at convention in November 2023, and it was a moving and emotional experience for many in attendance.

When: Thursday, February 29, 5:45pm

Where: 3 West Ridge Road, Savannah, GA 31411

Bishop Logue speaks on the future of the diocese

Our Savior in Martinez has created a podcast, Our Savior Speaks, with a new segment they are calling Faith Enigmas. This series of interviews is designed to bring conversations to listeners on challenging topics pertaining to faith traditions, spiritual life, community, and practices of religious institutions, to name a few.

In connection with his recent visitation, Bishop Logue was a guest on the program for the first of this new series. In the episode, he sits down with Kiara Bouyea from Our Savior to discuss questions the congregation has about the future of the Episcopal Church in the Diocese of Georgia. Parishioners submitted the questions, which get at the heart of where we are now and where we are headed as the Episcopal Church in Central and South Georgia.

The link to the contact form is below. Please updated it with the most current information available. Also note that this information is held within the diocesan office and not distributed to those outside the office.

1Book1Diocese Discussion Guide Available

This Lent, the Diocese of Georgia offers a study using a book written by the directors of a more than eight-decade-long study of what makes for a fulfilling life. The Harvard Study of Human Development offers a window into lives of meaning and purpose through the data they have collected. The book also looks at what is gleaned from similar studies around the world. While the book itself does not make connections to our faith in Jesus, the discussion guide does.

As the authors write, "The good life is joyful ... and challenging. Full of love, but also pain." And for those of us who follow Jesus, the good life is one in which loving God and loving your neighbor as yourself is central. We will see how these two greatest commandments connect to the key insights of the study that is the heart of this book. Join Episcopalians around Central and South Georgia for this 1Book1Diocese read this Lent.

The discussion guide is designed for a five-week study beginning in the week after the First Sunday in Lent and ending the week following the Fifth Sunday in Lent.
